First thing to do is to find out what it ain't gettin. This involves pulling a spark plug, so you will need a 3/8 inch drive ratchet, a 5/8inch spark plug socket and a long 3/8 inch drive extension. Turn the ignition on and try to start the engine. Now, turn the ignition key off and remove one spark plug from the engine. Look at the tip of the plug. It should be wet and smell like gasoline. If it's dry, that means you ae not getting fuel to the engine. Now we will check for spark. Take the spark plug and the spark plug wire and hook them together. Lay the spark plug down and have a helper turn the ingnition key and try to start the engine. Watch the spark plug, there should be a spark jumping across the electrodes at the tip. If you don't see a spark, then there is no voltage getting to the plugs. Put the spark plug back in the engine and replace the spark plug wire. Now you need to let me know which of these two items is missing, spark or gas. From there, we can determine where to look next. Sounds like a lot of work, I know. But there is no easy answer to the problem. It is a process of elimination until we find the source of the trouble. The only other approach is to replace parts until the engine finally starts. That's the easy, and expensive way out. Whichever way you want to go.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
If that's the case then the fuel pump needs replacement. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

When I start my 1999 GMC JIMMY sometimes it starts right up. Sometimes its as if it does not get enough fuel then it starts. I have been told it could be the fuel pump or the fuel injection regulator....

i been having fuel injection troubles myself and seems to me your problem may be your fuel injection pressure regulator, before starting when you turn the key so your dash lights show up and at that same time you should also hear your fuel pump motor spinning which means that its working and sending fuel through so you may have a fault with your regulator,,hope that helps, goodluck.
