2000 Dodge Caravan heater not working. Coolant level is right up. Problem started by intermittent heat, now there is nothing. Heat gauge stays at just above the middle.

have you changed the thermostat lately ?

  • billpjgilles Jan 03, 2011

We found the problem! Coolant level has been going down and we were needing to add coolant quite often, but couldn't find a leak. Turns out the water pump has a leak in it. it only leaks when there is pressure on the system, i.e., when driving. When stopped, it doesn't leak. We live in snow country and today let the van run for a while, and sure enough, telltale antifreeze on the snow, coming from the water pump. Hope this helps some one else

IF YOU CAN'T FEEL THE AIR FLOW OUT BUT YOU HEAR THE BLOWER MOTOR WORKING, BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX IS A CABIN FILTER.REPLACE FILTER
IF YOU HAVE GOOD AIR FLOW BUT NO HEAT:
1;VACUUM LEAKING TO HEATER CONTROL
2;WATER PUMP GOING BAD / NOT CIRCULATING COOLANT,HIGH RPM/MORE COOLANT TO THE HEATER CORE
3;OPEN THERMOSTAT/ENGINE TEMPERATURE TO LOW
1;CHANGE THE DIRECTION FROM VENTS TO FLOUR TO WINDSHIELD. IF NOTHING HAPPEN IS THE VACUUM
2;RUN THE ENGINE INSIDE ON WARM PLACE ON IDLE.NOTE THE GAUGE IF PAS 1/2 TO 3/4. IF PAS 3/4 MARK REPLACE WATER PUMP
3;IF GAUGE STAY BELOW 1/2 REPLACE THERMOSTAT
GOOD LUCK

Dodge grand Caravan 1995 has been acting up with erratic heating since last month.

Could possibly need a new thermostat, the thermostat opens and closes depending on the heat of the coolant. maybe also check your heating core. as well as the quality of you coolant.

what motor do you have? have you change the thermostat lately? check the 2 hose to the heater core ,and see if they are hot. if only one is hot then you have a clogged heter core

Heater is not working on my 2003 dodge caravan

Since your blower is working and it is a heat issue, thats where we'll start,First thing is have you checked the coolant level in the radiator when engine is cold, make sure it is filled to top, next verify you have coolant in reserve ,Start your van and get it up to normal operation temperature,If your heat gauge on the dash works correctly it should be 190 degrees,Now lift the hood and locate the two heater hoses going into the heater assembly at the fire wall,Both hoses should be hot to hold on to,if both are hot and no heat inside your problem will be the blend air door in heater assembly.
if neither hose is that hot you need to replace the thermostat in the engine to get it up to 195 degrees.
if one hose is hot and one is luke warm then the heater core is blocked and to blame. hope this helps you.

2000 Dodge Caravan 3000CC engine - In summer, temp gauge in the center. Water temp is 190 degrees. In the winter, temp gauge at quarter level. It takes forever to rise. If you use the heater, the temp in...

Sounds like a stuck thermostat. The thermostat cycles open and closed in order to maintain a temperature range, some cars with very sensitive gauges reflect this opening and closing, but most cars have gauges that are somewhat less responsive in order to keep people from thinking something is wrong. I would defineately replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system, replacing the fluid with fresh.

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

2005 Grand Caravan has no heat at all - has digital A/C and Heat controls. Engine temp comes up on the gauge so it's not a stuck thermostat

First check the coolant level. If that is ok, then start the van and let it get up to temp. Inspect the passenger side front floor and carpet. You may need to peel back the carpet a bit front the front. Youre looking for coolant coming into the vehicle which is a sign your heater core has failed.

240cpa is right.dodge caravan does not have a heater control
valve and coolant constantly crculate in heater core . use the temperature contorol on instrument panel if you notice no change in heat your blend door in heater box is not moving . and as 240cpa mentioned make sure the t stat is not stuck open.
