Check the ECM/BAT fuse. this fuse controls the ECM and the fuel injection circuit. If the fuse is ok, you need to check for voltage at the spark plug. Pull the #1 spark plug. If the cylinder is getting fuel the plug will be wet with gasoline. Put the spark plug wire back on the plug. Now crank the starter and look for a spark from the spark plug electrode. If you can let me know what you find from these tests, I can help you determine the next course of action.

great! Sounds like you just need a good tune up. Plugs, distributor cap and rotor. I,ve got a '96 jimmy 4wd that I bought recently. Still working on front suspension. First thing I did on it was a tuneup. I decided to go for the big guns in the spark plug department. Put in E3's. Wierd looking plug. Uses surface gap technology. Nive power increase, even better gas mileage increase. They are pricey, but well worth it. Glad your up and running.

My '97 GMC Jimmy was running fine one day and then wouldn't start the next. The battery is fully charged, the engine turns over when the ignition key is turned, but it just won't catch....

TURN THE KEY SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION ,WITH THE GAS LID DOOR OPEN DO YOU HEAR THE HUMM OR WHINE OF THE FUEL PUMP,YOU MAY HAVE TO GET A 2 PERSON SO THAT YOU CAN PUT YOUR EAR RIGHT UP TO THE FUEL DOOR TO HEAR THE HUM,IF THEIRS NO HUM ITS NOT GOING TO START.THE TANK THEN MUST BE REMOVED AND A NEW 250$ FUEL PUMP WILL NEED TO BE INSTALLED.THE PUMPS ARE ALSO DIFFERENT BETWEEN 2DR AND 4DR. EBAY HAS CHEEP PUMPS 100 OR LESS.

Stalled out while driving and now will not start,, almost as if it is not getting any gas

try this turn your key to the on possition the dash lights will start to flash leave them flashing untill the stop flashing takes about 10 minutes. this is an ignition learning sequence and is a know failure for 98 thru 04 chevy and gmc trucks and suv's then see if it will start.
if you car has a security system factory or aftermarket disable it. i just went throiugh this problem with my wifes blazer. it turned over fine but didnt even try to start. the ignition sequence should allow you to start it. post your out come and we can go from there

1993 GMC Just finished driving it for a couple hours parked it went to go start it. it will turn over but wont fire can smell gas from the throttle body but wont fire

make sure you have spark at the plugs and have fuel pressure
if you don't have spark then you need to check the coil, crank sensor and ignition module

Not recieving gas to crank.

You jimmy has no throttle body, the injectors are in the intake manifold in front of the intake ports. To have them activate, you need 62 to 65 PSI at the shredder valve. Anything different will not activate the injectors and DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE BY PORING GAS THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODY. It's been know for the gas to catch fire and burn up the poppet valves, (fuel injectors) which will result in a $1,500 Spider injector replacement. If you do not have the proper fuel pressure, chances are the fuel pump will need to be replaced. When replacing the fuel pump, replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame, it's only $12.00 and will keep the gremlins away. Good luck and keep me posted, the other thing too that would cause the injectors not to fire is a bad ignition modulator with is located under the rotor in the distributor. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your jimmy running again soon.

My 95 gmc jimmy will turn over but won't start.

Are you getting fuel and check for spark and if all is well, then move to your fuel pump and if checks out okay , ignition module and pick up module and coil have checked out .

1997 , wont crank

if starter will engage and engine can turn over quickly it should start.

however.. i dont know how you are verifying it has fuel as its a high-pressure FI system.

these systems by GM are VERY finicky and unless within spec precisely it will NOT run. i suspect fuel pump is putting out less than 57# which is min for these.

fuel pump known failure part. if replaced you MUST also replace wire harness at tank as they usually fail internally w/melted wires you cant see through wire sheath. low voltage will KILL the new pump.

also you didnt note engine size and family...

2001 gmc jimmy not starting

Did they do a fuel pressure pressure test to determine that its fuel pump? And if so what was the p.s.i.?It should be around 55 to 60 p.s.i. a few pounds under 55 p.s.i. Pump needs replaced, Your shop should have chk. this when it was there the first time. Did they by chance chg. the fuel filter, that can hinder it from starting too.

97 jimmy wont start

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
hope this helps.....good luck!
