Question about 1986 Plymouth Reliant 4 Door

2 Answers

Won't start I have an 86 reliant that will turn over but won't start. Ether will start it, but it won't stay running. It acts like it's not getting fuel. I can't find any information on this vehicle to trouble shoot the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

I wasn't sure how to check fuel pressure. We are taking the cylinoid in to have it checked. I assumed it had spark if the ether started it, but I don't know.

do you have spark? if so, have you checked fuel pressure?

Sparkplugs are gas fouled.
change them out, or possibly faulty altenator that wont hold any charge.

I have a 86 Toyota 4Runner, it will not stay running. It will start right away and run for about 5 seconds and then die and won't start unless I leave it alone for an hour or so. It cranks and wil

Good explanation of symptoms.Thank you.

No assumptions.
Diagnose problem.
Pinch off the fuel return line.
Check fuel pressure--I don't wanna!PITA!
The fuel pump won't run if the fuel filter is plugged up.
Toyota's have a gas tank drain plug!!!!!!!!!
My '84 takes a 3/8 " ratchet. Cool.

There may be a fuel pump relay that is toast, but I suspect the filter, off hand.
A plugged filter will overwork the pump and cause the engine to run rich.

1999 lincoln navigator turns over won't start dash board lights stay on with key out.

sounds like antitheft system is acting up..needs reprogramed maybe..pull the negative cable with the key on....kills everything..then shut the key off..reconnect the negative.. turn the key to run position for a few seconds(resets all factory presets) see if it will start..

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... I wish you luck. Let us know how it turns out

1986 Toyota p'up starts, but won't stay running once i left off gas pedal

first i would look for a vacuum leaks get it as close to idle as you can when cold and spray carb cleaner around and also check to see if the egr valve is stuck open this will act as a vacuum leak but not detect as one spraying carb cleaner around carb cleaner with change the engine speed near a vacuum leak

When you try to start it, it will turn over like it wants to start, but won't stay running?

This may be the anti theft security system acting up. Very common on GM vehicles. Read this link thoroughly. Especially the symptoms part. If this is your problem. It also provides solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

I git an 87 plym reliant and it will start but will not stay runn

I would suspect the pickup in the distributor. It is a common problem, and a fairly cheap and easy try. It is located under the rotor button, and should be about $15-20.
