Hi, to check the heater water valve, start the car and turn the heater on. Go to the valve and pull the vacuum hose off the valve (see picture of valve below). You should hear the hose leak and see the rod come out of the vacuum actuator and turn the lever on the control valve. If this is not your problem, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6235876-no_heat_fan_blowing_cold_air , and let me know if you have any questions.

Car heater will not heat up

providing there is suffecent coolant, you probably have either a bad heater control valve or a blocked heater core. Is the problem present w/ def. activated? If not then the blend dooray be the problem.

1997, Mercury Villager, NO HEAT. Flushed radiator, flushed heater core. Has a rear heating system, is there an additional heater core and maybe a valve in the rear heating system?

you have air trapped in system. If you could hang van like a deer in a tee, you could get the air out. Go to a sho with evac/fill equipment and have them purge the air. You are about 3 qts short of full

go here too. read cooling system files.

Try disconnecting the battery for 2 hours. Then drive for 10 miles so the PCM can relearn. It may run rough for 10 miles.

Cold air coming out of heater vent instead of warm air.

Check operation of the heater core coolant control valve and associated remote control mechanism.

Greetings. i have a 96 mercury villager that neither the front or rear ac is getting cold. fan blows hot air... was told that it did not need freon and that the compressor checked good... any other ideas

yes it sounds to me like the thermostat control on the dash is malfuctioning. either that or heater control valve under the dash that converts the flow of air around or through the heater core could be stuck in heater mode. hope this helps. i dont know your financial situation but if it was me i would aquire one from a salvage yard in order to test because that part is quiet expensive from the dealer
