1998 olds won't shift from first gear

You may have a defective transmission modulator valve. It is an external part that is vacuum operated. If your transmission fluid level has dropped, but you do not see a leak, this modulator valve is defective. You may have a vacuum leak in the hose that connects up to the modulating valve. You may need a transmission rebuild if the clutches have worn out inside the transmission. You may have a very low transmission fluid level due to a leak. This could cause shifting problems as well. The transmission filter could be plugged up, not allowing fluid to flow at a fast enough rate for proper shifting. One symptom can have many different causes. If it were that simple, one symptom that was caused by only one problem, it would be very easy to diagnose the problem. Now we all know that it is not simple at all.

Transmission leaking from top of transmission.

It is the vent valve. Two things cause this to leak overfilling the transmission, make sure it is within the safe zone with fluid very hot to the touch, never check cold. The next is overheating the transmission from heavy loading or internal failure in the transmission like slipping clutch packs or defective torques converter.

1997 ford f140 2wd 4.6 automatic transmission is leaking, have replaced pan, gasket and rear seal what else will cause it to leak? leaking out rear of pan, you pour fluid in and it runs out without even...

On the front of your truck where your radiator is there is a transmission cooler, there are lines running from your transmission to that cooler they could be leaking, the transmission cooler is behind the grill on the front of your truck infront of your radiator, and as far as a stop leak, myself it is alot cheaper than buying a transmission, I would suggest that you use CD2 transmission stop leak, just a suggestion.

1991 Chevy Lumina APV. The transmission fluid is leaking. Can this be a gasket or seal problem? Also, can it be I put too much fluid in?

Leaking transmission fluid can usually be traced to 1 or 2 problems:
  1. leaking transmission line - a line could be bent or it could be leaking around a fitting, the most common place for a transmission line to leak
  2. the gasket around the transmission pan is worn - this would cause leaking and having the filter and fluid changed should fix this problem
To answer your other question, YES it is possible to overfill the transmission fluid. Check the dipstick (with the car running) and ensure that the level stays between the recommended marks.

I have a radator leak, will that cause my transmission to change slow or not at all on my 1998 cadallic deville

I would very much doubt it to cause the gearbox problem unless the transmission oil was leaking into the ra diator under pressure causing the gearbox to lose oil.

Will a oil seal leak cause transmission to slip

If you are referring to a leaking transmission seal, your answer is yes...,Transmission fluid not only keeps the parts inside lubricated, but actually is a working component of the transmission. If it's leaking, keep it full and have the leak fixed asap or you will burn out the unit.

My 2003 chrysler concorde is leaking transmission fluid. what is causing that?

All depends on where it's leaking from. If it's leaking from the transmission pan, then it's going to be a bad transmission pan gasket. If it's leaking from the transmission cooler line or connections from the transmission to the radiator, replace the line or the connections or just the O-rings in the connections. If it's leaking from the transmission housing where the engine and transmission mates, then it may be the from pump or Torque Converter. The leak could be coming from the CV joint inner shaft where it connects to the transmission. Good luck and keep am eye on your transmission oil level, low transmission fluid will cause transmission failure.

Rear main seal leaks..does this affect transmission??

A leaking rear main seal will not cause your transmission to leak.

The transmission has its own seal and should not leak because of the engine rear main seal.

Due to the labor involved in replacing the rear main seal on the engine, it is best if you replace the front transmission seal at the same time if possible.

Installation varies on different vehicles but the principles are the same.
