Question about 1994 Volkswagen Jetta
94 VW jetta Automatic.would not start. When I turn the ignition on there is no crank, no sound.
Is it the start or some alarm systems on these cars
How would I test the starter without removing it from the car, or how would I start an automatic car with a bad starer.
94 Jettas have a anti-theft kill switch. It can mimik the starter or alternator. Lock all the doors with them closed, then unlock the drivers side with the key. Wait about two min then try cranking it. Should start up instantly, if not reset the computer.

I just experienced the same problem and it turns out its the timing belt. I've never heard of this before, but when I pulled the cover off the belt was broken. Not sure if any other problems exist (still need to make the repair), but thought I'd share.

If you have power when you turn your key. Then you need to check your starter solenoid. If you don’t check your battery first. There is no way to start your car without your starter. And you will have to remove it to test it.
