It's the torque converter. It's like driving a car with a manual transmission and releasing the clutch with the brake on. If there is a wire harness plugged into your transmission, unplug it and see if it helps.

Well it sounds like the convertor as that is the oil pump for the G/Box and also the filters for the forward and reverse pumps so either you have covertor problem which should have been changed when the box was out and the sump off the box and screens filters for pumps cleaned or washed before refitting and get the forward/Reverse bands checked out for adjustment also .
Also check the bolts on the convertor as they do come loose every so often.
Let me know how you get on .

Location and access to Transmission Filter to change Trans. oil and Filter

Hi Lb,
My car is RX300 1999 and has the same problem. I changed the fluid 2 years ago after the trans slip and lost the shift. Afterwards it worked for another 2 years. But recently it doesn't work again even I change fluid and put Stop Slip additive to the trans. I was told the trans has to be rebuilt. So changing fluid and filter can help to maintain the trans for sure and can prevent problem. But if the trans has already worn a lot, it can't help at last.

Trans leak from dip sick

Could be damage from jacking vehicle to change tires. Sometimes lift kits are installed to match oversize tires and clearance might be messed up by putting on smaller tires. Any chance dipstick was already leaking?

My 2001 chevrolet is shifting VERY hard, tires sometimes spin, in every gear. I would really appreciate any advice. No one can tell us what it is.. In and out of garages and no change.. Very frustrated...

hello, first of all you didn't say if trans auto or manual, I guess is auto Right!
If so, there's a solenoid for every gear, the solenoid may need ground or be replaced Anyways, before do that, I recomend you to check trans fluid and go to autozone for scan it,
even althought there's not any check engine light, there may be some saved codes already!

Transmission slips after 1st gear

First, check the fluid if you have not already. If it is really dirty, change it and the filter. Then add some Trans X slip stop when re-filling. This product has worked really well for me. Autozone, Wal-mart, etc. usually stocks it. Add 16oz. It is a great cleaner for your trans, and works well. If that does not help, you may need a re-build or another option may be a used trans. Shop around if that is the case, prices can vary quite a bit with trans. shops. take care and good luck.

Maintenance free transmission is slipping

There is NO such thing as a maintenance free trans

I used to own a trans repair business

If you do not change trans fluid on any and all
automatic transmissions every 3 years and
NEVER more than 30,000 miles ,it is like
a death sentence for that trans. Three hot
summers of driving and kiss it good buy.
The oil over heats, and breaks down over time

Todays high tech vehicles run hot, and now have
5,6,7,speeds in them. Two people can not get them
to the work bench, as in the past.
So do you think Mike Rowe's Ford commercials really work?

The Companies that make vehicles do it for one reason. MONEY
They don't care if they last or their dealers techs can get there hands in
around anything, to even work on it. Try it some time

If your trans slips and is 8 or 9 years old, you already exceeded fords life expectancy
They tell you 100,000 miles. Try running a spark plug that long or trans oil,or power steering
fluid.
People are losing trans, steering racks and have all kinds of issues, for decades, because
of lack of common sense,or any knowledge of a vehicles needs. The MFG's love it
They even take your hard earned tax dollars and nothing changes

1996 Chevy K1500 4L60E trans problem

O.k. the small hose that you have coming out of the case is the trans vent. The one going up the firewall is for the transfer case. The trans vent should be hooked to the transfercase vent. You say you have a 383? Are you running the fuel injection system. Is this a 4L60E (the stock transmission). If you have fluid coming from the vent, the transmission is getting too hot. Replace the cooler. Do away with the radiator cooler and add one to the front in front of the condenser.
