Question about 2003 Ford Mustang

I have a 2002 v6 mustang. I installed a used 2002 v6 engine 3 weeks ago because my spark plug threads tore on my original. NOW i have 4 cyclinders misfireing, tranny shifts late or after i let off the pedal. changed oil, plugs, wires, coil!! i need help pleeaase

Where the dist use to be is a shaft that contains the camshaft sensor. Thet go bad and can cause it to miss fire and also affect the shifting, Take the sensor comes off by removimg the two small screws .see if it is damaged. If you used your old shaft you may have it out of time. When you replace it, there should be a paper showing you how to time it, or it will be in a repair manual.

Its a well known cause that if the motor is running really bad the tranny will **** or act bad your gonna have to find the problem with the miss firing cyclinders and fix it doing this make fix your tranny problems you can clear most computer codes by unhooking the battery for about 10 min and then start it and see if the engine light comes back on that will give you a new set of codes you will have to have them read and fix what they are.

Need to replace spark plugs where are they on car


i added the comment if it's a 4 cylinder or V6 engine (v6 is harder to do because the back 3 plugs are a pain)

if you got a 4 cylinder engine, here's a video!


it's for a 2009, but you have the same setup ~ coil over sparkplug system

PS: don't be cheap on plugs and get the ones stated in the video and/or in the owners manual

i would have double checked the gap with a wire spark plug gapper tool BEFORE installing the new ones

of course, do this when the engine is COLD

i would use a torque wrench and torque to specs as well (usually 13 to 15 ft lbs ~ too tight may strip the hole and too loose will pop the plug and go up to your hood)

also, if you read the comments there on the youtube video, he used anti-seize ~ with this brand you don't need it, but some others may use it ~ he put way too much on the spark plug threads if you want to put that on, put just a small dab and rub your finger around the threads

Have the fuel; pump checked for pressure bleed down after sitting, it should hold pressure within 5 PSI of rated running pressure after shutting sown the engine for extended periods.

Need to replace sparkplugs on 2002 ford escape


well replace spark plugs is not a hard job,when replacing spark plugs, good time to replace plug wires also.you need to replace one spark plug at a time so you wont mix up firing order. you need a spark socket, torque wrench, 3/8 ratchet wrench, 3/8 short and long extensions,you need a spark plug gap gauge.spark plug gap for 2.0 engine 0.051 the 3.0 engine spark plug gap is 0.052 - 0.056. just follow spark plug wires they will lead you to the spark plugs.warning wait until engine cool down first because removing spark plugs from hot engine could damaged the aluminum heads,use compressed to blow away debris before removing spark plugs keep debris falling into the cylinders.wear safety glasses if you use compress air and use small amount anti seize compound to the spark plug threads.good idea slip a short length rubber hose over the end of spark plug to use as a tool thread it into place.reason i use piece vacuum hose it will grip the spark plug enough to turn it, but will start to slip if the plug begin to cross thread.when installing spark plug, it should turn at least few times if spark plug start tighten before 1/4 turn thread cross threading need to back off start over dont keep turning you will stripped spark plugs threads in the head also damage spark plug threads, so be careful, good luck with job.

1. Remove the ignition coils (lines at end this document), then return here once you have gotten the Coil
Packs off and precede with step 2 from here.
2. Clean the spark plug recesses with low pressure air. CAUTION: Wear safety glasses
when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury. NOTE:
Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could
result in engine damage because of dirt or foreign material entering the cylinder head, or
by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent
the proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any
contamination.
3. Remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head. NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before
removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may
cause the plug threads to seize, causing damage to cylinder head threads.
4. Inspect the spark plugs.

1. Measure the spark plug gap on the spark plugs to be installed. Compare the measurement
to the gap specifications. NOTE:
• Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark
plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the vehicle. Installing
spark plugs of another type can severely damage the engine.
• Check the gap of all new and reconditioned spark plugs before installation. The
pre-set gaps may have changed during handling. Use a round feeler gage to ensure
an accurate check. Installing the spark plugs with the wrong gap can cause poor
engine performance and may even damage the engine.
2. Install the spark plugs to the cylinder head. NOTE:
• Be sure that the spark plug threads smoothly into the cylinder head and the spark
plug is fully seated. Use a thread chaser, if necessary, to clean threads in the
cylinder head. Cross-threading or failing to fully seat the spark plug can cause
overheating of the plug, exhaust blow-by, or thread damage.
• Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the spark plugs to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).
3. Install the ignition coils.

IGNITION COIL(S) REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor (2).
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).
4. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:
• The exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor (5)
• The camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid valve (6)
5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).
6. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:
• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (5)
7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
8. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.
9. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
10. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover. IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.
2. Install the ignition coil bolts. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
4. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the intake CMP sensor.
5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:
• The ECT sensor (1)
• The fuel injector harness (2)
• The ignition coils (4)
• The HO2S (5)
6. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) to the following:
• The exhaust CMP sensor (5)
• The CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
7. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) to the camshaft cover (3).

open the hood and count the spark plug wires going to the distibuter cap and subtract one for the coil wire

I dont know in what order my spark plug wires hooked up.


Chec here the MUSTANG FIRING ORDER

Below are the firing orders for 5.0L, 4.6L, 3.8L, and 2.3L late model Mustangs. Remember to be very careful when checking your firing order because the ignition system on your car runs on very high voltage. Do not remove spark plug wires from the distributor or spark plugs while the engine is running.
Firing order sequences:
V8's 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
V6's 1-4-2-5-3-6
2.3L 1-3-4-2

Replacing spark plugs


Not exactly sure what you need?
Standard Rules:
Use a Spark Plug Socket to remove and install Spark Plugs.
Replace (remove) one Wire at a time from one Spark Plug.
Replace One Spark Plug at a time. Use Anti-Seize Grease applied moderately to the threads on the new Spark Plug.
Using a Socket (with a extension) START all installations using your hands. This prevents cross-threading and stripping of the threads inside the Heads.
Standard Torque 15-20 ft-lbs.
Replace the One Wire connection to that One Spark Plug.
Replace that One Wire connection to the Ignition Coil.
Go onto the next Spark Plug using the above Rules.
Repeat.

For the 3.4L V6:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
......(back)
1.......3.......5
2.......4.......6
......(front)
Ignition Coil Connections:
............(back)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 43094 Spark Plug Boot Puller
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
3. Use the J 43094 in order to remove the spark plug boots from the spark plugs.
NOTE: Allow the engine to cool before removing the spark plugs. Attempting to remove the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause the plug
threads to seize causing damage to cylinder head threads.
NOTE: Clean the spark plug recess area before removing the spark plug. Failure to do so could result in engine damage because of dirt or
foreign material entering the cylinder head, or by the contamination of the cylinder head threads. The contaminated threads may prevent the
proper seating of the new plug. Use a thread chaser to clean the threads of any contamination.
4. Remove the spark plugs from the engine.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Use only the spark plugs specified for use in the vehicle. Do not install spark plugs that are either hotter or colder than those specified for the

Tighten
Tighten the spark plug to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
3. Install the spark plug boots to the ignition coil assembly.
