Question about 1998 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

My 1998 bonneville has a skip. When I pull the plug wire off the #1 spark plug, it does not affect the engine (while running) at all. I changed the spark plug and the wire. No change. I checked to see if the wire was firing, it was.

2000 ranger missfires on number6 , runs good over 2000 rpms

It's still misfiring. The engine is running to fast for the computer to pick it up. Pull the plug wire on 6 , start the truck. look for spark out of the wire. No spark, replace the coil pack. Spark, pull the plug, see if it is fouled out. I would do a compression test also, while the plug is out.

I have a 1998 pontiac bonneville se , engine 3800 (no turbo) the car idels smooth, but when you mash down on it , the car starts mising and than levels out , it also miss if you kick it the passing gea

I seriously doubt it.
The O2 sensors measure the amount of unburned fuel in the exhaust and would not be affected by water if you got them wet.
The spark plug wires and coils would be affected.

1998 pontiac firebird coil pack, will coil make it miss on 1 cylinder, 3800 engine, misfiring, have changed plugs and wires

yes, it can happen. check for spark from the number one coil using spark plug wire and hold it near a grounded point. it should be a consistent spark with engine running. compare to different coil wire for verification. those coil packs are partially replace able because each coil fires two plugs. replace the no.1 portion with a new one from parts store. 28.00

On a 1998 dodge stratus 2.4 ltr engine misfire

check compression, with engine running remove h/t leads 1 at a time to diagnose weak cylinder, check that cylinder has the same amount of spark ( jumps the same gap as others )try changing the plug from crook cylinder to a good one and note if miss follows that spark plug or stays with same cylinder, can do same with injectors but only perform one procedure at a time so you can determine which one works.

Someone crossed spark plug wires i need fireing

It is stamped on the top of the engine, in the head. It is usually pretty easy to find, and you wont have to remove any pieces to see it.

you may have a bad coil---take a pair of rubber handle plyers & remove the spark plug wires 1 at a time---when you pull off a plug wire you should notic the truck runs even worse---the one you pull off & it doesnt change the way it runs--that is the cylinder that has the problem
