Lack of power and uses too much fuel

I need a little more info, however i can give you places to look. It might be as simple as a tune up or fuel filter. The oxygen sensor could also cause it in some cases, if it has a map or the equivalent, even the tps could cause it. how long has it been doing this? did it start all at once or gradually? do you smell fuel? there are many things that could cause this, but if you give me more details i can help you solve this in a cheap and easy way. also check for a vaccum leak. you can spray either soapy water or carb cleaner while it is running in the area where you think it might be leaking, you should hear a change in idle quality. look at your vaccum hoses, sometimes they become weak and start leaking. sometimes the plastic connectors for the vaccume hoses crack and will cause the same thing. is your service engine light coming on? you can have your codes read that the comp stores and track where the problem is. if this helps, good, if not give me a little more info and i can find the problem

Lack of power in gas pedal

Check fuel pressure and see if its around 30-35 psi while under load if not replace fuel pump, also the gas thats in the tank may be no good if it has sat for so long..

Sometimes when i press the gas pedal on my 99 accord all the way down it acts like its needs gas. What could it be?

Hi there,

For an engine to work properly, the fuel air mix must be within certain parameters. Too much fuel uses up the available air before the all the fuel is burned and causes the engine to 'stumble' (a momentary lack of power until the fuel/air ratio has been restored). Flooring the pedal can certainly cause these symptoms.

When this happens, it's lack of air, not gas that causes it. Check your air filter as a possible cause, it may need to be replaced.

I get engine light, borrowed neighbors DTC reader get code P0136, could bad gas cap cause the eror?

P0136?

Yes this can be caused by the gas cap lack or week rubber.

Rate this and replace the gas cap.

Lack of power

is the trans fluid level ok? check the color of the fluid, should be a nice cherry red color, and notice the smell of the fluid. if it smells burnt, or like the smell of burned brakes. if you have the bad smell, the clutches are burning, time to rebuild.

Low power on startup

there are a few things that you may check but i will not guarantee that they will work. check the throttle cable for any slack or wearing. also try to check the idler.

I dont think you finished but it sounds like your transmission is slipping if you don't get power immediately when you press the pedal to the floor. It will need to be rebuilt or replaced soon.
