When I use the cigarette lighter to charge my cellphone, the battery actually DIScharges in the phone. Can this be due to reverse polarity at the lighter outlet?

Yes. Depending on the Coach company there may have been an inadvertent error. The lighter is a simple positive/negative connection. Even if the leads are reversed the lighter will still work. If overloaded then the fuse will blow. To check to see if the polarity has been reversed: use a test light to determine the polarity. The center down inside of the lighter should be the positive. The side walls should be the negative. I hope that helps, if so, please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.

If that is indeed the case, switch the wires and then attempt to use the lighter to charge the phone/accessory. You may have to cut and splice the ends as the center wire most likely has a round connection, and the side (should be negative) more often has a flat blade connection.

I tried it in my Subaru and it works fine. Strange situation. We're in a ford-chassis motorhome, traveling for 5 months and none of our devices will charge on the system. Thanks for the info.

Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

The battery on my 1194 S420 needs to be charged. I can't open the truck to get to the battery. What do I do? HELP!

You can buy a trickle charger that will charge the battery through the cigarette lighter socket, but it won't charge the battery quickly. I'm guessing that the "1194" should read 1994. Some newer cars won't work with a cigarette lighter charger.
If you have a manual transmission you can actually push start the car by getting it rolling, putting the ignition in "run", and then popping the clutch. Not something that you can do if you haven't seen it done before, though.
Best wishes and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out.

How can I open the luggage compartment of a Porsche 911 when the battery is dead?

The best way to do this is to put battery voltage back into the system through the cigarette lighter. You can buy a battery charger at an auto parts store or walmart that is designed to charge the battery through the cigarette lighter. It will have a plug on it that insert right into the cigarette lighter. Let it charge a little, and try the button again. It will pop right open.

Yes. Recommend to have local repair/stereo shop perform installation due to running new wiring and fusing circuits.

Cigarette Lighter Coming on but power not strong enough to charge anything

the two problems that you posted could be connected somehow by the alternator not charging because of the belt issue. so if you have a low battery, the cigarette lighter would have a low voltage also.

then on the ipod issue, the memory of the radio could have been lost due to removal of battery cables or the battery really went down on its voltage. just re-configure your radio to accept the ipod music.
