That transaxle is one of the worst ever made,
at least from ford

I don't mean to hurt your feelings but the failure rate

Get rid of the vehicle

Absolutely silly a repair shop would ask you why
it over heats,if you knew the answer, you wouldn't be
there & they should know what causes overheating

My van slides when you put it on drive and when this happenens the service engine soon light was coming on. my question is do I need to replace the trnsmission or could it be a sensor because when it's on...

Your best, and least expensive, way to possibly rectify this problem is to have the fluid and filter changed in the transmission. If you have already tried this then you need to have a professional tranny shop diagnose your situation. Thanks Dana. P.S. You might want to try a bottle of Lucas transmission treatment, this stuff has been known to do miracles. And I don't usually suggest any mechanic in a can, but, this stuff really is incredible. Thanks, Dana

Where is the vacuum modulator located on a 1994 Ford 5.0 econoline van

This particular van should not have a vacuum modulator. That part is located on the transmission and controls shifting which is electronically controlled on the 94 models.

My 1994 ford econoline van is not shifting gears

This a repair for a transmission shop. Sounds like the pumps are bad inside the transmission. Thats the worst option I have.
It also can be a poor shift linkage adjustment. And the last solution can be the speed module that tell the transmission when to shift.
Goodluck! I hope this helps!

Transmission shifting into various 4wd modes on its own

I had a similar problem with my van. The transmission randomly selected gears. It was the PRNDL1 switch..This switch is controlled by the gear shift lever. I had a shop replace the switch for me, so I don't know where it is located. Hope this helps
