I have one of those cars and personally, would not recommend it to anyone period...same year, with the 2.5l v6 and auto, it just hit 103,000 miles and its poor quality car, front end shakes with new tires, had to replace rear hubs which are same as a Ford Contour(also junk) there are alot of similarities to the contour... took it off the road and replaced it with a 1997 civic 5 spd with 169,000 miles...problem solved

TRANS RANGE SENSOR PO 708

Code 708 is for a problem with the circuit for the gear shift range selector sensor. The sensor tells the computer what position the gear shift is in, such as drive or reverse.
The sensor and circuit would need to be tested.

How do i take out the governor on a 1999 v6 mercury cougar?

You need to buy a EEPROM re-writer they are about $2500.00 and then you must be very careful as to what parameters you change. Our you can buy a piggy back system, also known as a chip. But one that will remove the governor is also quiet expensive.

My car skips second gear. and goes straight to 3rd. how do i fix this? is it by adding more transmission fluid?

Start by changing trans fluid and filter. Adding fluid is NOT going to change things, sounds like valve body is sticking and a good flush and trans filter might help if it hasn't done too much damage.

1989 Mercury Cougar Engine will not turnover. Jiggle stick shift most of the time car will start, very intermittent...does not happen all the time. Is there a sensor attached to the gear shift that detects...

There is a switch on the side of the trans called a neutral safety switch. It only allows starting in park or neutral. the switch probably needs replacing. The next time you have a problem starting, try shifting to neutral to see if it will start. To do so, leave the key in the on position, apply the e-brake and shift into neutral.
