SOURCE: TORQUE SPECS /HEAD GASKET/2001 CAVALIER...

for the 2.2L OHV:
(pully 8 4 1 5 9 <-- long bolts @ 63Nm (46ft/lb)
side ) 7 3 2 6 10 <-- short bolts / 10 is the stud @ 58Nm (43ft/lb)

for the 2.4l dohc are as follows:
(pully 9 3 1 5 7
side) 10 6 2 4 8
bolts 1-8 torqued to 65Nm (40ft/lb)
bolts 9-10 torqued to 40Nm (30ft/lb)

then (either engine) give each an additional 90° (¼) turn

it's best to do the tightening in stages, you don't want to go completely tight on the first pass or there will problems and you'll get to do it all over again

SOURCE: replacing the intake manifold gaskets and head

Before accepting any advice on the torque specifications for the bolts, you should refer to the Haynes manual that specifically relates to your vehicle. The reason reason why knowing the torque specs. for these various bolts is not good enough is that each bolt will need to be tightened in a certain order/sequence. The Haynes manual provide you this information and a lot more! These manuals will run you about $10-$15 and they can be purchased at most auto parts stores (i.e. Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc.). Good Luck!

Please remember to rate this solution. Thanks!

I replaced head gasket on my 1992 vw golf 1.8 8 valve engine.. and it wont start. i checked my spark and it good, fuel delivery its good, i tried to check ,y injectors and there seems to be no signal to...

Yep...youll need to get the timing set. anytime the head comes off, really on any vehicle, its a good idea to set the timing. also, make sure that you have all the plug wires connected in the correct order.

To replace rockerarm,do i need to remove the head?first 1 left side facing the car.

You should only have to remove the rocker assembly, the head bolts ussually hold the assembly on,but even if you remove them the head gasket will stay sealed. You'll have to get the torque specs and bolt down sequence, and check to see if its recomended to replace the head bolts. When you dissassemble the rocker assembly lay the parts out in sequece and reassemble in the correct order.Hope this helps.
