Question about 2005 Cadillac Deville

2 Answers

My 2005 DeVille won't come out of park. This just happened today. I drove it early this morning. I went to get into it this afternoon, I started the car, stepped on the brake and the shift lever won't come out of park. It is a floor mounted console. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

Sounds like he brake switch is out of adjustment.
Have someone verify your brakes lights come on when theh pedal is depressed.
The switch (there may be 2 one for brakes one for shifter release) are usually mounted up on the pedal and just clip on.
Perhaps a clip broke or it just came loose

Thanks for the response. Yes the lights are working. I have not had the opportunity to get down and see what type of switch or switches are used. I will do that first thing in the morning.

    Thanks again.

Have someone check if your brake lights are working
The brake light switch and shifter lock are usually one switch
If your brake lights are not working your brake switch needs to be replaced

Hope this helps, it it does please leave feedback and vote Thank You and Good Luck

Thanks for the response. The brakes are the first thing I checked to make sure the light was coming on. The lights are working. Still looking. Thanks again.

Toyota camry drove home and parked and now won't move? NO ****** ISSUES BEFORE THIS!

It will not move in Reverse either? It could be

- the shift cable has broken
- the parking lock pawl has broken
- park/neutral position switch faulty
- transmission manual valve faulty

I think one of the first 3. There isn't much you can do except have it towed to a transmission shop.

Pickup just died no lights came on check engine didnt come on pulled over put in park started up 2 wks later early morning went to start pu would not start turned over just fine tried 4 or 5 times finally...

Maybe an ecu problem, my buddies F150 did this, its a sensor that has to do with the transmission, not sure if this is the same issue, it cuts fuel off, and then shuts the vehicle down, then it can randomly start depending on how the truck reads it at any given time. I can ask him further of what the issue is again....I'll get back to you.

I drove to work this morning, 18 miles from home. When I was parking backwards, I saw the battery light on the dashboard went on, then the ABS light went on too. I was able to park properly then switched...

You need to go straight to the shop, the battery light is on because your alternator is not charging the truck will only run until battery drains again, the brakes have nothing to do with it,hope the shop is not far away the battery will build itself up enough to start and run a few miles try not to use heater, radio or lights so you will make it, the only other thing that may have happened is the belt broke, but i think its the alternator, good luck hope this is helpful.

I know you have dumped a lot of money in your lawn ornament but one unhooked or dirty ground wire not making a connection can reak havick with everything, I would chk.for ground issues like around the fuel tank and where they hook to engine to body to frame or k-member.

2005 honda accord could not start

My daughter's Camry did the same thing. Odds are the battery is shot. Pull it out and take it by a parts store to get it tested. Her's showed a bad cell and once a new one was put in, the problem went away.
