Sounds as if the key remote had one of its buttons stuck down.this happen to me when a girlfriend used her nail to press the remote and the rubber flap got pushed inside the fob and kept the remote sending signals.unfortunately you can't just swap out batteries as most key fobs have to be reprogrammed.if you use the dealership that your make is serviced by it is better to ask how much they charge as sometimes independent auto locksmiths can reprogram key fobs cheaper.

Doors lock themselves for no apparent reason

I would check the battery in your car remote . I had the same issue where if the remote was within 50-70 feet from the car my doors would lock or unlock and sometimes the remote start would turn the car on randomly. The battery was my cure.

Sounds like you have a key without the chip in it. Replacement keys without the chip will only unlock the doors and will activate the theft alarm when you start the vehicle.

Need to program a keyless remote on 2003 Liberty

the instructions say they are the same for up to 06. Need a working remote to make this work. On your programmed remote:
    - Switch the ignition to the on position.
    - Press and hold the Unlock button for at least four seconds. While holding this button, press the panic button and then release both buttons at the same time. You may or may not hear a chime from the vehicle.
    - Within 30 seconds, on all remotes to be programmed (including the original "programmed remote")press and release the lock and unlock buttons at the same time, followed by pressing ANY button on the remote.
    - Switch the ignition to off or wait 30 seconds for the programming mode to clear.

Just did it last eve; also can find more details in the Owners Manual (However you only need one working keyless remote to program another keyless remote. You should be able to use the electronic vehicle information center (EVIC) on the overhead console to train remote (Owner's Manual, p. 132-133). However, on my 2005 Liberty this does not show up as an option like it does on my 2003 Liberty.) or Jeep KJ Service Manual.

Hope it works for you (remember rated this help).

Keyless remote still works but the alarm system and horn seems to be deactivated. What could be the problem?

If you look in the jeeps owners manual for the keyless remote section, you can program the horn to honk or not honk when you lock the doors.
