What could cause the temp gauge to not register after replacing decending unit, thermostat, water pump & antifreeze?

Bad ECM, bad wire from the ECM to the instrument panel, and a bad motor for the temp gauge.

I have a 2008 Chevy Colorado and today my temp

when a temp gauge drops to cold ,it indicates a problem in the cooling system
temp gauge sender units need water to activate the resistance that makes the gauge read so a falling gauge indicates no water around the sender unit --- air lock in the system--faulty wire connection to the gauge sender unit
the ac unit is not connected to the temp gauge so there may be another separate problem there
the temp sensor is an entirely different unit to the temp gauge sender unit and the short term working would be from an altered coolant level from changing that sensor --air lock in system
the temp sensor connects to the ECM to activate the fans and monitor engine operating temp so as to keep the air/fuel mixture exact for the engine conditions
the temp sender unit just makes the temp gauge read
a faulty thermostat will either be stuck open and the engine temp will take a long time to rise or it will be stuck closed and that will cause an overheat very quickly

I have a 2006 expedition 5.4 the temp gauge stays on cold whats wrong?

check your coolant. the temp is the water temp. Your radiator is out of water? you`ll burn out your water pump. Also check to see if your radiator fans are running constantly.

99 mercury cougar v6 2.5L, temp gauge is reading hot after thermostat change why? is it a air bubble or is it a bad temp. sending unit? any other ideas? please help

May be a defective thermostat or place in the wrong direction. If it's properly installed, might want to check the fan operation which may be producing the overheating.
If fan is good, one way to remove air in the coolant system is to run vehicle while all heaters on. take extra coolant and stop along the way to top off if needed. While driving, keep listening for the fan to begin running when vehicle reaches high temperatures.
If you continue to experience overheating, may want to take to a local known repair shop for further troubleshooting.

The original temp sensor was broken So I replaced it twice and it stillisnt working

Have you verified thet the temp gauge works? If not and you have a single wire going to the temp. guage sensor, you can ground the wire coming out of the temp gauge sensor, cut the ignition on, and verify the gauge peggs hot. If this doesn't happen, verify the integrity of the wire. If the wire is good, replace the gauge.

Where is water temp sending unit on a 99 marquis

There are two. One is the sending unit for the temperature gauge. It is located in the intake manifold runner just to the left of the alternator. (Left, meaning your left as you are facing the front of the engine -Passenger side of the engine)
The other is the sending unit for the computer which is located in the left cylinder head under the intake manifold. (In this case, Left means the engine left bank or driver's side of the engine.) The intake manifold must be removed to get to it.
