SOURCE: Rough idle 1994 chevy pick up k1500 4x4
I had a 96 GMC 1500 with a 5.7 ltr. It would idle rough, especially on start up. After replacing everything under the sun, it turned out the ECM (computer) was shot. I found a used one and plugged it in and it ran fine. I think I paid 50 bucks or so for it. If you know someone with a truck like yours, plug theirs in and see if it fixes it.

I would expect to find it in the tail shaft just like the speedometer cables were.It should be pretty obvious.

Take the bolts out that attach the steering box to the frame and pivot the box so you can fit the puller on.
Leave the steering shaft and power steering hoses attached.
Mark the new pitman arm and old one in the same place and mark the pitman shaft to keep the same position of the new pit man arm on the old shaft as the old pitman arm.
SOURCE: I am looking for the proper procedure to shift
On my 1997 GMC the manual says, slow to 1 to 3 mph keep wheels straight. Put transmission into neutral and then move floor lever/shifter forward from 2H into 4LO. Do the 2H to N to 4L in one single motion so that it slips in easier,if you linger in neutral it may not mesh gears correctly. You will hear a slight sound when it slips in. Personally I just reversed the procedure to get it back to 2H.
