I don't understand why my 97 Taurus antifreeze Reservoir is running at 200 degrees or better with a 195 degree thermostat.


That is normal, just because the thermostat is 195 that has nothing to do with it reaching a higher operating temperature. 195 is the minimum before the stat closes to heat the engine up.

I have a 97 chevy k1500 i have changed everthing dealing with cooling system a/c workes great my heater dosent all accuaiters arev working temp gauge shows 165' plz help


If your saying 165 degrees F, that isn't right, in my opinion. With a 5.7L engine and 195 degree thermostat, I want to see over 200 degrees F on a fully warmed -up engine.
Are the heater hoses hot?

Heater issue


This sounds like a thermostat that is fully open all the time. It allows the engine coolant to warm when sitting still (no air being forced thru the radiator), but even that goes away when moving, since the air through the radiator will remove that heat from the coolant. Does you van have a temp gauge? Is so, at full operating temp. most vehicles have coolant temps of 180-195 degrees F, depending on the thermostat installed. Anything less indicates a thermostat that is starting to malfunction.

How can you tell if thermostat needs replaced


The thermostat stays closed when the engine is cold to restrict flow of coolant into the radiator. It opens when the coolant reaches 195 degrees.
If it fails, the engine will not warm up, or it will not cool down.

Heater and defroster don't work well


Connie this sounds like your thermostat in the engine is stuck open not letting the water stay in the engine block to heat up. The fix is to replace the thermostat with a new one that will allow the water to stay in the block to warm up. The typical symptoms of a stuck open thermostat is that the air will blow somewhat warm but never hot in the winter time, but it will take a few miles for the air to warm up at all. I would check with the dealership and find out what degree thermostat to replace it with. I run a 180 degree in the summer and a 195 degree thermostat in the winter just to have hot heat in the winter. I hope this helps

My 2004 A4 1.8 Audi's water temperature does not go above 150 degrees F. What can be the problem


Check the engine thermostat!

Thermostat checking:
1. Cold engine. Start up the engine and watch of the water temp indicator. After first value 140 degrees F you still warm up the engine until the lifter (pointer) reach 175 deg. F (second mark after 140 deg. F). At this time you let engine running at idle speed and check with your hand the thermostat plastic housing and hose temperature in bottom left side of the engine. Heed of alternator driving belt and ventilator fan !!!
2. If the thermostat is good the hose must be cold until the water temp indicator reach almost 195 deg. F.
3. The thermostat opening temperature is 188 deg. F.
4. If the hose is already warm the thermostat is out of order.

Replace the thermostat if necessary!

What should the thermostat setting be on a 2000 jeep cherokee with a 4.0 litre 6 cylinder motor.


You can't set a thermostat but you should only use a 195 degree(f) or the engine sensors will think the engine has not warmed up.

I went for an emissions test today and it failed the mechanic said the car might be running too hot or too lean also notice the the heat gauge stays at cold when driving.HELP


I suspect you need a new thermostat. It should be running at 195 degrees F.

If the engine does not fully warm up, the engine can not go into emission control mode.

The engine temperature sensor sends a signal to the engine/emissions computer that the engine is now at normal operating temp. The computer then starts controlling fuel flow, EGR, etc. so that emissions are being controlled.

When the enigne is cold, you are in what we call "open loop" meaning no emission control.

Get the thermostat installed first. Make sure it's the same temp rating as the one that's in there. Either 180 degrees or 195 degrees.

Then you should pass.
