Have had no major problems until now - New Years Day. Tried to start auto. When turning key in ignition, all lights on dashboard clicked on and off repeatedly. However, motor would not turn over. Yesterday - noticed that the "front airbag" light on dash remained on for a short period of time - but the light went off when motor was restarted.

Hi

Sounds like the battery is failing or you have a bad earth from the battery to the car body, the black wire. I would check them first before going any further.

Regards

Dan

p.s try and disconnect the battery for 10 minutes then reconnect this sometimes works, resets the cars computer.

First off, you need to get a can of electrical cleaner/ lubricant. Disconnect the battery and then spray some of the electrical cleaner into ignition switch. Put a towel on carpet to catch any liquid that makes its way down the steering column. Most of the time this will be very dirty and will stain carpet. Spray some more and this time insert key and turn it to start position, let it return to run position and then off several times while spraying electrical cleaner into switch around key. Inside the ignition switch are these little floating pins that make contact to supply power to relays that open to give strong power to lights, starter, ect. After several years of use, they will build up corrosion, oil residue from grease used inside switch when it was new, and or dust build up. These all cause the pins to stick and also gum up the ignition cylinder that turns when you turn the key. When the pins stick, it continues to supply power to different components such as computer, horn, light relays, ect. Wal Mart and most auto parts stores sell this cleaner. Do not use WD-40 as it is a conductor and will attract dust and short allowing the power to still be supplied even when key is removed. You can also buy a powdered graphite that comes in a small bottle with a tip on it. You can squeeze some of this into the ignition slot to lubricate all the little contacts inside the ignition switch as well as the ignition tumbler...

My car started out by stalling when I put the right turn signal on but would start back up. Now it died and will not start back up has new battery. the dash lights come on but when you turn the key

Sounds like you might have wire problem.
Try turning the key to the point before ignition. This is actually a dashboard test that have all lights on the dashboard turn on. Try to see if the lights are completely bright or a bit dull in the light.

You battery might be uncharging itself, instead of charging. I have tried that. even with an only 1-2 day old battery.

Sounds like the electrical part of the ignition switch, not the lock cylinder that needs replacing.
Possible also that cutting that wire to the security module immobilized it.

Have your alternator checked. Most auto supply places do this at no charge. Multiple dashboard warning lights usually indicate alternator problems.

Turn the key but nothing happens all electrics

Not all replacement parts are good. I would guess that the new ignition switch is bad. Its also possible that the wiring harness is loose where its connected to the ignition switch. You could try jiggling the wires.

My 2001 Olds Integre will not start, but later does start.

This may be a problem with the ignition switch. The ignition switch feeds power to many of the different systems- including the starting system and the dash.A low voltage output of the switch will not allow the starter relay to engergize, along with many other odd problems. A way to check this is that when it is acting up, turn the ignition key back and forth very quickly many several times, or tap and the head of the key with a small hammer. These things will normally cause a faulty ign switch to correct itself for the time being.
