2005 Volvo XC90 headlight washer cover came off. Purchased a new one and need to get the piston to come out of the bumper to allow me to affix the cover to the headlamp washer arm. How do I get the arm to extend without spraying ?

The headligths on your 90 drop out by lifting the two vertical bars pinning them to the body work - giving full access to the lights. very easy.. once you find the bars! they have tabs about thumb nail size on top of the light towards the engine, you just pull them up and the light falls out!

How do I change the rear differential oil in my 2004 XC90 Volvo?

I have confirmed the fill plug is located on the Differential cover (rear facing) Closer to the left about half way up. Although Summit after market Differential covers has a drain plug the OEM cover does not. You will need to suction the old fluid out then add the new fluid. From what I can see the fill plug is 13mm. Capacity is .7L. Used Volvo Rear Axle Fluid (API GL-5 Low friction part #1161329). Also I read that it requires one aluminum crush washer (same size as engine oil drain plug). I don't know about reusing the origional.

You must be replacing the connectors to the lights, this is not hard to do, bumper doesnt need to be removed , this is like replacing a headlight bulb, remove the rubber cover to access the bulb then open the release clip to remove the bulb disconnect the connector from the bulb, take the new one and match up make sure to algin connectors and see which wire goes where, cut one at a time and connect to the same location as where you get of the old one, good luck

How to remove headlamp assambly in a volvo s60 2002

Hello,

This should be fairly simple, one may have to remove the grille.

  • Remove trimmings on the front bumper cover to allow access to the bolt for removal of the front bumper. The trimming can be removed simply by prying the trimming from the center of the bumper cover using a Philips screw driver.
  • After removing the 2 bolts on the bumper cover, you may open the hood and remove the plastic fasteners on the top of the bumper.
  • To remove the plastic fastener, simply depress the center until click. Do not press too far or the fastener will be damaged.
  • Turn the Torx screw in the wheel well counter clockwise to loosen the catch plate on the bumper. Lift the bumper cover over the catch plate and push the bumper cover forward. This completes the removal of the front bumper cover.
  • To remove the headlight assembly, you will need to loosen the bolt on the retainer near the wheel well. You will then remove the 4 bolts that hold the headlight assembly.
  • There is one bolt on the side of the headlight assembly. Two bolts on top and one at the corner of the lens. They all have the same size bolt.
  • In order to remove the headlight assembly, after removing the bolts, the headlight harness needs to be removed.
  • The next step is to remove the trimming on the lens and removing the clips that hold the lens in place. There are 4 clips. One clips on each side.
  • Once the clips are removed, the lens can be pry open with screw driver. You may want to heat the edge to soften the glue or use an utility knife to scrape the edge. Be extra careful, as the glass can be very sharp if shattered. Please also wear protective gear such as safety goggle and gloves. After this, just reverse the steps to put the headlight back together.
Take care and good luck

CD player in a 2005 XC90 volvo

Sorry, It's not reparable. You have to change it the new one. This price is very high. If your car hasn't warranty, I suggest you, use a portable DVD-USB player with an FM trasmitter in your car. I know it isn't sounds good, but I had the same problem and I have changed the CD player to a new one (it was terrible prize, of course) and I never use CD and DVD since that time. I use mp3 -usb combo only and i haven't any problem. I hope this help.

Old body style or new body style?

New body style...there should be a bar type thing that holds it in place.

Old body style, there are two different styles. One where you can take the headlight out without pulling the bumper cover off, and the other where you need to pull the bumper cover off.

Wiggle the assembly around while looking for any areas where screws seem to be missing.

Headlight cover discoloration

I called Volvo North America and after several days of call-backs was told that the 'factory' plastic doesn't stand up to heat and washing. I replaced them both with aftermarket units and the $300 per headlight alone was worth it but after 4 years (I have a 2004 t-6) the aftermarkets are still clear, go figure. Got them from www.autopartswarehouse.com for $200 each (dealer qutoed $525 + labor). BTW they install with only two clips on the top, don't let a dealer charge you more than $50 to replace them.
