Question about 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

1 Answer

My C Class immobiliser seems to be stuck. the red and green lights come on the rear view mirror. A few times disconnecting and reconnecting the battery has helped reset the immobiliser, but it is hit and miss. How can I bypass the immobiliser?

Hello Abdul,
I had this problem and the solution is rather strange.... Change the battery in your remote key for a brand new fresh one and see if this solves the problem. Apparently, when the lithium battery is low, the central locking will continue to work but the immobiliser disarming circuit cannot decode the signal.

I have a 2007 LTZ Tahoe and this is the first time a little red light has come on the rear view mirror. Does anyone have a clue what it might mean?

I believe that light is the 'automatic day/night mirror' indicator. You can turn it on and off by pressing one of the buttons on the mirror. See owners manual for more info.

What is blinking red light on top of dash board by wind shield and what is green light on rear view mirror for

The Green one on the rearview sounds like an autodimmer. (tints the rearview mirror from bright headlights behind you) & the Red one on the dash could be an alarm warning light

Red and green lights on mirror flash continually, sometimes go out only then will car start

Hi.
I had a similar situation on my 1995 C220. Firstly it appeared that the key was transmitting duff code and confusing the system. With green/red leds flashing the immobiliser's on. A weak key signal was misunderstood, but a new key battery solved that.
Secondly, my problem didn't time-out like yours. When the problem had occurred the only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery...I think it was just for some seconds.
This reset the system. With a good key code transmitted and a reset security system it all worked fine.

P reg merc c180. red light flashes on rear view mirror when drivi

If you have a small odd shaped key on the keyring there is a socket under the steering wheel (in the plastic housing) which mine fitted. By turning the key left or right in the socket it resets the light. I found that the flashing light indicated that the alarm had been triggered at some time when I had been away from the car and had switched itself off after a time. If you have this key you could try that.

LED lights for locking and unlocking flash at the same

that system is part of D.A.S. 2( driver authorization system verson 2). the lights in the mirror will blink red when lock and green when unlock. during the self diagnoses portion they will blink simutanilusly when the remote key batteries are low and alternating when there is a malfunction with the key or other part of the driver authorization. it sounds like your remote key central locking batteries are low.

Hello!

Yes quite possible, and we hear a lot of complaints from other owners of various vehicles, having the same problem after battery has been dead, or disconnected especially. What i would recommend, unless one of the other techs on fixya has the remedy, is call the nearest dealer and ask for the service manager or service writers & perhaps they can guide you through the process quickly over the phone. have you VIN# ready when you call him.
