Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My kid's are out of state and had trouble with the car sputtering out until it quit.A garage told them the fuel pump was out.So they paid over 800.00$ to this garage to fix it.Then the garage told them it wouldn't fit right and that they would have to rigg it up,and they left on there way home and the car quit again. My question is where is the fuel pump and is that price to high to repair it?I thought all of the newer vehicles had the pump in the gas tank?

My 1998 Lincoln Towncar stopped in the middle of the street it turns over but won't crank it has 3 dashes where it says fuel remain what is the problem?

Hi Eric:
Maybe it needs a dash more fuel.
Kidding, but maybe not.
If it was running fine and then just quit, the first suspect is no fuel.

Hope you got it off the street and into a safe place.

I'd start by putting some fuel in and giving it a try.

Then you get into trouble shooting, check for spark and fuel pump function, fuel delivery (injectors or carb)
Or a tow to the local garage.

Which sensor?

I doubt it is a sensor because a faulty sensor would turn on the check engine light. I would look at fuel pressure in case the problem is a weak fuel pump or pump relay.

Loss of power and sputtering during acceleration until ready to shift into next gear. 2.2 engine. No check engine light. Seems to run fine until under power. Changed fuel filter but no help.

Sounds like you have a fuel pump problem, sometimes when they are defective it just does'nt quit it will not produce the pressure needed to get the fuel to the injection system when accelerating.

Sputters on initial startup and again also 15-20 minutes after shutoff and restart

fuel pump, clogged fuel injectors, bad gas.... could also be a timing problem among other things depending on what you mean by sputtering.... my advice find a shop that will diagnose the car for free( like AAMCO). hope this helps :)

Fuel pump.

I have a 2000 ford focus and there was a recall for a defective fuel pump. THe dealership replaced it for free. You should check Ford recalls for this problem.
