The center trim panel is held on with 6 spring clips.\ ( circled in black in the picture below )

Is the dash panel that surrounds the gauge cluster - sscullys_158.jpg

Be cautious at the top, the PAD ( passenger airbag deactivation ) indicator has very small wires to it, and can break of you pull on it.

My odometer light is out how much is it to get replaced

It is actually quite a simple process to replace the bulb.
You normally need to remove the plastic surrounding your dash to get access to the gauge cluster, then pull off the access panel to the gauge cluster and yank the offending bulb out!

I would imagine it would take a tech 1hr to do this, so 70$ + parts.

Remove instrument cluster ford focus 2007

First, lower the steering column locking lever and and release the retaining clips holding on the upper steering column shroud with a small flat-tip screwdiver. Remove the shroud. Remove the upper retaining screws from the instrument cluster bezel (surround) then unclip it from the dash. As you withdraw the bezel, disconnect the wires from the luggage compartment switch and trip computer, if you have them. Remove the four mounting screws from the instrument cluster assembly and withdraw the cluster. Disconnect the multi-plugs from the cluster. BE SURE to keep the cluster in the UPRIGHT POSITION to keep any silicone fluid from leaking from the gauges. Hope this helps out. Good luck!

I needed to replace climate control unit on1997 Grand Am GT. Concerned with how to remove the cluster face panel w/o breaking it.

Let me know if this helps out.

Heater & Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the screws securing the cluster trim plate to the instrument panel.
  3. Tilt the top of the cluster trim plate downward releasing the clips that mount the bottom of the trim plate to the dash. Remove the trim plate.
  4. Remove the screws attaching the accessory trim center plate to the dash.
  5. Tilt the top of accessory trim plate downward releasing the clips that mount the bottom of the plate to the instrument panel. Remove the plate.
  6. Remove the screws attaching the control assembly to the dash.
  7. Remove the control assembly from the dash.
  8. Disconnect the control assembly electrical connectors.
  9. Remove the control assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the control assembly.
  2. Connect the control assembly electrical connectors.
  3. Install the control assembly attaching screws.
  4. Push the mounting clips into place and roll the top of the accessory trim plate upward into position.
  5. Install the screws attaching the accessory trim plate to the dash.
  6. Push the mounting clips into place and roll the top of the cluster trim plate upward into position.
  7. Install the screws attaching the cluster trim plate to the instrument panel.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

The light bulb under the gas gage is burned out. How do I change it?

Around your dash/gauges, the plastic surrounding should just pull off. it has clips and they are strong, so be careful not to break them. After you pull that off, you should be at the gauge cluster (all the gauges together). Around the cluster, there should be screws holding the cluster in. Removing these will allow you to pull the whole cluster out. Then, on the back behind the fuel gauge, you should find the bulb.

Replacement of speedometer on 1988 F150 V6 5 Speed

Easiest to just get a new gauge cluster -

Remove the dash bezel (some screws/clips), then remove the 4-5 screws that hold the cluster in (can't remember exactly how many). Pull the gauge panel partially out, remove wires and detach speedo cable.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Well you can please follow the below steps -
1. Remove the two screws on the underside of the dash cowl.
2. Pull off the trim bezel that surrounds the gauge cluster and dash assembly by pulling it forward with your hands.
3. Remove the four screws that hold the gauge cluster in place.
4. Slide the gauge cluster forward, and remove the electrical plugs from the back of the cluster.
5. Replace the bulbs that are blown. Turn each bulb counterclockwise to unlock it from the dash cluster assembly, then pull the bulb straight out of the housing. Insert the new bulb, align the tabs on the bulb with the notches in the back of the cluster and turn it clockwise to lock it into the housing.
6. Reassemble the dash. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. Post comments for more help or information........

I need to replace globe on instrument panel. How do I dismantle the dashboard in order to get to the globe. I have a 1994 Ford Falcon ED Futura Cheers

the instructions are as follows:-- The dash on a Ford is made up of numerous trim panels that help contain the instrument panel, cluster and other components. You will likely need to remove any to all dash panels to work on any parts in the front of the truck, and you will need to remove some panels first to remove others. Please note that the removal procedure can vary greatly depending on the model year of your car. 1) Disconnect the truck's negative battery cable by peeling back the insulator if one is equipped and loosening the clamp nut for the black cable with a wrench. Set this cable aside so it won't accidentally come into contact with the battery post during the dash removal.2Remove the driver's-side knee bolster by removing the two screws located at the bottom (they should require a Phillips-head screwdriver) and prying around the top of the panel with a trim stick, flat screwdriver or other dull, flat-bladed tool to release the panel from its clips.3)Unscrew the screws for the instrument cluster bezel, which surrounds the cluster and steering column; these screws are at the two lower corners. Use the trim stick to release the bezel's clips at the top end, pry it off and disconnect any electrical connectors attached to it. You may need to remove the steering wheel in order to remove this bezel.4)Work the trim stick or other flat tool around the entire edge of the instrument panel center bezel--which surrounds the stereo and heater/air conditioner controls--to release it from its clips. This one panel has no screws to remove.5)Remove the screws for the upper finish panel, which aren't accessible until you remove the instrument panel bezel, and remove the panel from the dash.6)Open up the glove compartment door. Press the two sides of the compartment inward until until its bumpers clear the stops. Remove the fasteners at the bottom of the box to remove the glove compartment.7)Remove the pushpin fasteners that secure the center brace cover at the bottom of the panel and remove the panel. How to replace dashboard lights

You need take off the instrument cluster; remove 3 screws above instrument panel cluster holding dash pad for open the glove box and remove 2 screws holding dash pas.

Remove dash pad pulling up to unsnap end clips. With driver's door open, remove 1 screw from the side of the lower trim panel. You have all details in ZJ-Secc-8E-Instrument-Cluster-and-Gauges (page 21 and next).

How do you change the dash light bulbs on a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo?

The gauge cluster is removed by taking out several screws from the surrounding plastic panels, and two screw sticking upwards into the ceiling of the recessed area of the gauges. A trim-panel fastener removal tool can be very helpful for prying up the plastic panels once all of the screws are removed. There are metal clips that will hold the panels in place once unscrewed, and short sharp prying movements with this tool will usually disengage these clips. You may want to wrap some tape around the pry tool to avoid marring adjacent surfaces. You will probably have to move the steering column to it's lowest position and if the shifter is on the column, put it in 1st gear (with engine off, of course), to slide the gauge cluster itself out over the wheel. There will be a couple of plastic wiring harness connector behind the cluster which should be disconnected before pulling the cluster out fully. Be careful not to stretch or crimp the cable for the shift position indicator when working on the gauge cluster. Once you can reach the back of the cluster, you will find small plastic circular twist-in fasteners, each with a raised ridge across the middle. The come out easily with a 1/4 counterclockwise turn. The larger ones usually hold common #192 or #168 style small bulbs. The smaller ones often have permanently attached bulbs in them, and are replaced as whole units. These are usually stocked at local dealerships. Just make sure to match the part numbers when replacing them. Reassembly is the reverse of removal. Be careful to align the metal clips with their slots before giving the plastic panels a firm smack to reseat them. If misaligned, the clips will bend and give you much trouble.

How do i remove the instrument cluster on my 2000 ford taurus so i can replace the the bulbs that are not working

Ok here is how you do it.

Tools Required:
Ratchet or spinner handle
7mm socket
8mm socket
Ford DIN radio removal keys
ZipLoc bags, cups or some other way to store bolts
T15 torx bit (column shift only)
Automotive trim removal tools (helpful but not necessary).

(optional for odometer adjustment)
T15 torx bit
very flat straight edge

ICP=integrated control panel, the radio and HVAC controls.

Obviously it's up to you, but taking your ratchet and a 7mm bit to the negative terminal on the battery may be a good idea considering you will be working with electronics. Make sure you have turned off all lights; keys are out of the ignition, before you disconnect the terminal.

First, take the 8mm socket and attack the two screws up under the steering column. They are gold/copper color and near the OBD-II port. You'll feel them if you don't want to bend down at see them. Once you remove them, give the kick panel a few tugs and it should give way. There are some clips holding it on as well. If you are stuck halfway, you might it useful to use the flashlight to look around to see what's holding it on.

Next, removing the radio involves using the two Ford DIN radio removal keys. Insert both of them into the slot and push them in until they are sticking out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Then take your thumbs and push the inside side of each key outwards and start pulling...the ICP should pop right out. Keep pressure on pushing the keys in as well, so the radio doesn't get stuck. Column shifter people will find it ideal to fold out the console to rest the ICP surround and the ICP. You can also disconnect the cabling entirely if you'd rather. Floor shift models will find it ideal to put their keys in, turn the key to "RUN" and place the shifter in "1". Floor shift models can also go ahead and tilt the wheel all the way down as well.

Now you should see 5 screws holding on your ICP bezel. Take the 7mm socket and remove each of those 5 bolts. There are also two bolts of the same size behind the ashtray. Pull the ashtray out, push down on the tounge, and pull the ashtray out. Remove those 2 screws as well. I used a cup to dump all the screws into. A ZipLoc bag is a good idea as well. Grab around the ICP opening and give a good tug. Plastic clips embedded in the ICP surround and those screws are holding it in place. There is a clip holding the ICP surround next to the kick panel you previously removed, that can be difficult as well. *NOTE* You can also leave the screws in the ashtray attached and fold the ICP surround down, but it's best not to do this multiple times, you can only flex the metal tabs so much.

Next, remove the two 7mm bolts in the top of the instrument cluster surround. Now, column shift models (floor shift models have already done this), go ahead and put your key in the ignition, turn it to the "RUN" position and shift down into "1". Also tilt the wheel all the way down. There is one 7MM screw holding that bezel on to the top-left of the ICP surround area . It's right below the row of warning lamps on the far right of the instrument cluster. It holds the upper instrument cluster surround to the dashboard.

Now it's time to start pulling off the upper instrument cluster surround (the one with the vents, light switch, etc). A metal trim remover is not as ideal as it can put blemishes in your dash. Harbor Freight sells a kit of 6 plastic trim removal tools for about $5. They won't scratch and harm the soft upper dash as much. Don't be afraid to try griping at different angles, just requires a little pulling. Use the tool accordingly. Once you have it loosened out of the dash, you have one more step before you fully remove it.

Unfortunately, the G4 headlight switch knob does not pop off as easily as the G3. You can either stick a small, flathead screwdriver (wrapped in a cloth) in the slot between the dash and the bottom of the light switch. Then start prying away at it. OR (the easier method) Once you have popped out the upper dash trim, you should be able to push the headlight switch out through the opening. Disconnect the cables and set the headlight switch aside.

Now you can fully remove the upper dash trim. Start by pulling on the upper part that goes around the instrument cluster. Be warned there is a plastic wedge shapped clip in the middle. It will require bending of the plastic to make it pop out correctly. If you have a leather wrapped wheel, be careful not to scratch or cut the leather. The upper dash trim requires manipulating the shifter position (column shift models) and swiveling the trim around the steering column and pulling up on it towards the roof of the car. Eventually it will pop out.

Now you should have a good view of your instrument cluster. There are 4 7mm screws holding it in place. The cluster rests on two small knobs on the bottom as well. Go ahead and remove those bolts. There are two, 2" long connectors that go into the back of the cluster. They are at opposite ends near the top of the cluster. They have clips on the top of the connectors. Push down on it and uninstall them (not an easy task, but doable. If you are a floor shift model, continue on. Otherwise...if you are a column shift model, this is an ideal time to remove the PRNDD1 indicator. This requires the T15 torx bit. There are two small T15 on opposite ends of the bottom of the PRNDD1 indicator. Be careful and don't let the cable drop behind the dashboard.

Go ahead and remove the cluster. If you need to take your keys with you, regardless of shifter position, you can put the car in park and take your keys out.

----------Instrument cluster disassembly and odometer correction-----------
This would be a good time to check all the lightbulbs, make sure they are not blown. Flip the cluster over. Take some needle nose pliers, grasp one of the lighted areas (they are marked and color coded). The big black ones are the background lighting, the smaller ones are for the indicator/warning lamps. Twist the holder counter clockwise, then pull up. You should have a view of the light bulb.


--------END Cluster/Odometer----------
Next, reattach the upper trim panel, inserting the clip in first. As with last time, play around with the shifter in various positions(column shift) and make sure you get that 2" trim piece BEHIND the shifter. Once you have it set in place, go ahead and insert the two screws holding the panel into the upper dash. Reconnect the headlight switch and push it back into the dash. Insert the screw below the instrument cluster. Next reattach the ICP trim surround. Insert those 5 screws. Reinsert the kick panel below and insert the two 8mm screws. Pop back in the the ICP (with the radio DIN tools removed). Congrats, should be all back in place AOK.
