Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Ticking sound Is there a belt in the motor of my 2004 chevy cavaliar? I was told that the belt inside the motor is broke and that's what's causing this ticking sound. If there is a belt inside the motor, how much does that cost to get fixed and how long does it takes?

It is going to rain just need to manually try to roll up the window of a 2003 Chevy Cavaliar any suggestions until the motor can be replaced later this wk ?

If the glass is still exposed you can place one hand on the outside and one on the inside of the glass and lift it back into place then place a wooden shim or tape it until the motor can be replaced

I have a 2004 chevy 5.3 liter avalanche and it is making a ticking or knocking sound. It was taken to auto zone and connected to a diagnostic computer, they told me it was the knock sensor. My question is...

Does it only do it when cold? If so, this is "normal." Its b/c metal contracts when cold, and the tolerance of the way the engine is designed causes the "knock" but its normal and not harmful.

I have a loud ticking in the motor. car fires right up what could it be ? was told it was the timing belt then told that it was the lifter.

I would guess that it is a lifter. this happens over time. If it were the belt youcar would be running worst, probably missing out and the noise would be of the slapping, thud sound. you can try some valve medic, this might help with the lifter noise. But things do wear out and a few thousandths clearance on the push rods and rocker arms will cause a ticking.

If the timing chain is broke, dose the engine have to come out to repair it.

no you don't need to pull the mtor, the front of the motor must come apart after removing the radiator and all belts. There is a chance if the timing belt broke the cylinder head's valves may be damaged call the chevy dealership and ask to speak to the service dept. ask them if your year make and model car has an interference motor in it, if it does have one there's a good chance you bent a valve or two at the time of the belt breakage.

2004 chevy cavaliar 2.2liter engine turns over but wont start. Im looking for timing belt placement.

Hello chriso201: My name is Roger and I can answer this question. The Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 engine does not have a timing belt. This engine uses a timing chain. Check the compression if you have less then 100 psi on the cylinders I would think timing chain. Any thing over 100 the chain should be ok. I would prefer to see above 150 psi. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I have a 1989 chevy cavalier z24 2.8 6 cyl. Hard to start

a serpentine belt will not cause any such problems and the shop that told you the motor was bad probably can't figure out the problem and figured aww what the heck just replace the whole motor at your expense.... an even easier way to check the motor is with a compression tester you can rent from an auto parts store they cost about $50-$100 us to purchase new if you can't rent one I suggest getting a repair manual at that auto parts store as well @$30 take a couple of hours to read through I am not to familiar with that particular model but I wanna say there is an air temp sensor located on the air intake line or the intake manifold itself prob. a $12 sensor if you feel like taking a shot in the dark
