Question about 2001 Ford Taurus

The check engine light turns on and off. Could this be caused by bad gas or the need of a tune-up??? The car itself feels like it is misfiring, but runs fine after running for 15-20 minutes. Should I go to Auto Zone and get it tested or should I just reset the sensor???

Go to Autozone and get it tested. The intermittent misfire can cause the check light to flash when the defect occurs. The code will identify the cylinder which is the problem. Usually a sparkplug or damp sparkplug wire will do this until the operating heat dries out the damp part.

There is also the chance that an Intake Gasket is going bad or loose. When the parts expand from operating temperature the problem goes away only to return when the engine cools off. The code for these problems would tell of lean conditions. The extra air going into the engine dilutes the fuel mix. You will know from the scan and if the lean code comes up you will need to find the leak. For that, a spray water mist or choke cleaner safe for plastics can be used around the seams of the intake and on Vacuum solenoids and even Injector seals.

I hope my solution is helpful to you and good luck at Autozone.

You could reset the sensor, but that doesn't solve anything. If you let it go, it will only get worse. Take it to auto zone and find out what's going on before it escalates and leaves you stranded.

My 1999 ford escort lx is jolting when accelerating and when idling it feels like it wants to die but doesnt

Water in gas, plugged fuel injector, plugged fuel filter, bad plugs or wires. Its tune-up time! Start with the easy stuff and go from there. Hopefully it's an easy fix.
Could also be plugged catalytic convertercatalytic converter or bad torque converter

Rav 4 misses under acceleration

well if engine is ok. No year, no engine stated, wow. !!!
misfire is bad combustion. (gas usa cars are my answers)
  1. never did a TUNEUP this decade? 60,000 miles tunes.?
  2. bad spark first.
  3. bad fueling next too rich causes misfire. lean bogs.
  4. misfire shakes engine hard, is it .
  5. does it misfire parked just racing engine?
  6. cause are many over 50, but if engine good way less, so what can it be (we do tests no Gue$$) bad spark plugs, leaking injectors execessive fuel pressure, bad TPS, sensor. map sensor issues, (even clogged) and others. no engine stated makes waxing smart, hard, way to hard so i quit here.

Typically, a flashing light is more serious than a solid check-engine light. The flashing light is meant to alert you that you may have a misfire in your engine that will cause catalytic converter damage if you leave the problem unresolved. Replacing a catalytic converter can be costly, so have the engine checked as soon as possible by a certified mechanic.

Drive rough with foot on gas

if that is engine related, we dont know here , we cant drive it and feel it.
if that was engine vibration, its most likely MISFIRE.
the #1 cause of MISFIRE, is not doing the 60k mile tune up.

is the CHECK engine lamp off driving? if not scan the ECU/PCM
any scan tool works. (new types) even a $9 tool.
scan it for P03xx codes, misfire.

rough hot or cold engine.
rough only driving and not at idle and not racing RPM parked?
does engine ever stall>?

My Toyota Avalon 02 is experiencing problems with check engine light flashing when idling at a light and then goes solid when driving. The codes read p0300 Thru p0303. The car idles very rough and shakes...

code p 300 is random misfires
code p 0301,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,-7,-8 all refer to the cylinder that is misfiring ie p 0303 is no 3cyl misfiring
many people mistakenly believe that a misfire is from the plug, wires distributor when in fact it is more likely to be a problem injector ---dirty tip , low fuel; pressure , blocked tip, injector wiring
using gas conditioner sometimes works but in many cases it dislodges gunk that blocks the tip
At this point I would get a fuel pressure test done to check the pressure regulator , pump and filter condition as everything you describe points to fuel and injectors
AS a point of interest- with ECM controlled engines, the ECM tunes up the engine 60 times a minute to keep it within parameters and the plugs will last the life of the engine
when you want to do a tune up , simply have the fault codes read and fix only what comes up

We have a check engine light for misfired cylinders. We are planning on doing a tune up. Will this fix the problem?

usually a complete tune up will cure the problem. BUT, you can also get misfires for coil problems. also 1 bad injector will cause misfires. a tune up is always a good place to start. you may need to have the codes cleared after the tuneup.

My check engine light came on and it was when i was going up a a hill and in feel like to skiping or miss fireing.

I don't know where you live, but some auto part stores can put a code scanner on it to find out why the light is on. I autozone does.
