Very awful alternator to change. you have to take off the serpentine belt manually, and what i mean by that is that there is no bolt to torque the tensioner. so i just used a crowbar and had a buddy pull it off while i shoved it down with the crowbar. next (and make sure there's no power going to or from the battery) take off the plastic shroud that goes up to the windshield. disconnect wire clip, take off the (i believe) two bolts and reverse procedure to install.

the job is just bad. it's very tight, and unnecessary. just put the biggest bolt that goes into the block in first. It makes the new alternator go on a lot smoother, but it won't be that smooth regardless.

Its a pontiac 99 grand am se and it wont start, i got a boost and it started i went back out 2 hours later it was dead again whats wrong.

Sounds like you may have a bad alternator or battery. Get another boos and check the voltage on the battery when the engine is running with a DC meter. It should read between 13.2 to 18.2 volts DC. If it is below 13.2 you will need to replace the alternator. If it is reading between 13.2 and 18.2 volts DC then you may just need to replace the battery.

2001 Grand am Se battery light keeps coming on - replaced battery yesterday and had alternator checked - was told amp on alternator was fine?

Who told you the alternator is O.K.? How much voltage is it producing? Take a volt meter , start car & make sure the alternator is charging properly. Attach meter to the posts & see what it reads. All readings over 13.2 to 14.5 O.k. less means new alternator. Also make sure battery cable connections are clean & tight.
