U might want to try plugs..rotor..button..and cap..my 302 had a bad cap and button and didn't shift very good it would wined out and it was impossible to keep any speed..and my cat was clogged as well..as far as vacuum pop hood and listen for sucking and whistling noises..one at a time..or just run down and buy a bunch of hoses and start replacing..chances r they could b replaced anyway..

When driving the truck tends to rev way higher than normal, when you are at a stop and then try to go depending on how hard you hit the gas it will bog down almost dying, or die. also when you are driving...

sounds like your torque converter going bad. change the tranny fluid, and look for metal shavings (have a pro do this), sometimes you can squeeze enough life out of a bad tranny/torque converter by changing the fluid, or it might just be a clogged tranny filter. change the fluid, and if theres metal shavings in it, sell it while it still runs.

What could be the problem with the carb if going through way to much gas? 2 barrel carb &manual choke? F150 doesn't want to run very good when cold. Truck just guzzels the gas after started. Got a 302...

Possible things to be considered: Float level too high, needle has a bad seat and won't shut off, vacuum leak (either internal or base gasket), choke not properly adjusted.

My money would go on a carb. rebuild kit (but only if you feel comfortable attempting it) it's not all that difficult, but you MUST be (1) an absolute nut about cleaning it all very well, and (2) the various gaps, clearances, adjustments, must be made with excruciating precision.

This will be a lot cheaper than a rebuilt carb., and you'll get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

While you're at it do a general tune up.....plugs, points condenser, wires , air filter, PCV, etc.

Some times my 1984 ford f150 idels fine when its in park(some times)but when i put it in drive or reverse idel drops about 500 or so rpm sputters for a little bit and then dies. Some times it runs fine...

In general, yes. This is a carb tuning issue. Another possibility is a vacuum leak somewhere, but most likely, it's a carb issue. You'll typically see your rpm drop a bit when you put it in gear, but that it sometimes stalls out points to a carb issue.

1984 dodge w-150 a/t starts and runs good go down the road and it hardly wants to run sputtering do 3 mph replaced everything cap, rotor, plugs, wires, pcv valve, air cleaner, fuel filter, ballest risistor dont...

it sounds like the its not getting enough gas to stay running. try looking for vacum leaks with a propane torch going over all the vacum lines with the FLAME OUT but the troch on when it is idling. if the idle goes up at any time when the torch passes over a line than you have found your leak and replace the line. even if you have one line bad keep going over all of them. and if there is no vacum leaks than start the engine and let it idle for about ten minutes, shut the engine off and take all the plugs out. if any of them are wet with gas than you have a spark problem and then begin going over your cap, rotor, wires, and points.

Truck runs fine but wont shift

Possible output speed sensor, possible solenoid pack, possible bad transmission. Those trucks were known to have problems with the trannies. If you haven't been servicing it at least every 30K, that is most likely the problem.

1984 F150 Transmission Issue

If it's carbureted, there is adjustment at both places, carb & tranny that can be done, and it's a good possibility you bent or banged one of the linkages while doing your exhaust.

Carb is acting weird cant seem to adjust

That is the choke adjustment, have you checked your timing on the motor and check and see if the vacum pod on the distributer is working. also check your vacum lines for any tears or cracks in them.
