Question about 1990 Buick Reatta

1 Answer

The brake booster motor would not run, I think because the emergency brake cable is broken. I was going to try and get power to the the booster motor to see if I could test it. With the engine running I took a jumper wire and ran it from an extra light green wire that was hot to the red wire on the booster motor. That did nothing, but when I took my test light to the black wire on the booster motor the engine quit and won't start now. Everything on the dash lights up and the engine turn over but it won't start. Wheres the problem?

Hi

Tr and disconnect the car battery for about 30 minutes, this should reset the cars ECU, you may have also blown a main fuse for the engine components these are not the smaller fuses inside the car but the bigger ones under the hood,. When you replace the battery cables do the red one first then the black.

Hope this helps

Dan

1984 Honda Accord Brake Problem

well aside from the boosters you may also want to check the possitioning rotor and calipers. there is a possibility that something slipped, or leaked, check for brake fluids and try to trace where it is comming from.

the picture below shows how to disassemble the brakes of an Accord, the only special tool you will need is a ball joint fork to seperate the upper and lower ball joints. You have to remove the whole steering knuckle assembly to get to the bolts in back of the rotor and hub assembly.

How do I repair a brake booster motor

You should be able to get a "rebuild kit" for the booster. There are rubber seals and diaphragms in the booster that can go bad.

Brake power booster and what it will cause if its going out

Only get a vacuum leak, if the booster check valve
failed & may effect the idle, not sure if it would be enough
to stall out the motor
What is the emergency switch? Parking Brake warning light?
That wouldn't have any effect on the engine idle

Looking for a brake line

What exactly are you trying to do? The lines to the calipers are accessed by removing the tires and you will see the special purpose fluid lines that connect to them. The Lines for the rear brakes travel under the car along the drivers side to the rear then split off to the individual calipers. The Emergency brakes are actually cable operated and normally run down teh center line of teh vehicle. The lines are metal running from the Brake booster to their individual mount points and connect to the flexible lines that go to the calipers from there. All of the brake lines can be purchased at Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Advance Auto and just about any other major Auto Parts store. Hope this helps. If you are having brake problems and need more in depth trouble shooting information I recommend you get a Haynes or Chilton's Repair manual on the vehicle or if desired repost this question to the experts but try to be a bit more specif on what is happening so the experts can possibly provide a solution to you. Most brake problems are caused by low fluid or a vacuum leak on the booster line going to the master cylinder. In the case of an Emergency brake issue where they are not holding this is usually due to the cable being stretched over time, there are several adjustment points along the cables you can tighten up to correct this or the rear shoes are worn as the emergency brake only operates the rear brakes.

99' Audi A6 2.8 Q no brakes, low to no pedal pressure...

Not likely the ABS pump there is something wrong with the mechanical brakes it sounds like the emergency brake is not adjusted try adjusting the rear cable first then pull the emergency brake and push your foot on the brake if it is still to the floor you have a problem with a cylinder or a mechanical adjustment, if it's higher with the E brake on then you have the adjusters not set right and the cables not adjusted, So adjust the cables first. If the brakes are spongy with the engine off then it will need to be power bleed if that does not fix it then you may have the wrong brake shoes or pads on the car. Did you install the plates in the wheel rotor front braes? If not you lose 1/4 inch travel on the from pads, if the basic brakes are not right the ABS side is not going to be right so those problems have to be dealt with first. Also DO YOU HAVE A POWER ASSIST BOOSTER IF SO IT COULD BE BAD, TO TEST HAVE SOMEONE STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PULL THE HOSE OFF THE BRAKE BOOSTER IT'S behind the master cylinder (sorry for the caps) if you don't here a suction sound when you remove the hose then you have a bad heck valve by the booster connected to the hose that plugs into the booster. if all of this is ok then it may be the ABS booster but normally its a bleeding problem. write a comment if this does not help or you need another lead,
