Question about 1991 Honda Civic

Honda stalling Hello i have a problem i own a Honda Civic 89-91. I was driving one day normally going up a bridge and the car just died on me, just lost all the revs slowly i would like to know what the problem is. i got home and changed the fuel filter new oil change and tuned the carb a bit and it went well for about 10miles and returned to it's old ways now every 2.5miles i lose all the power i think it is electrical like the distributer or alternator. I lose power mostly when i go up. every time i lose power i wait about 4min then it starts again what could it be? Thank You

    I drive a 1991 Honda civic hatchback, automatic d15 duel point. As I drive it everything is good but as I go about 8 to 10 miles it starts to stall out my rpm’s drop and it shuts off it will first start sputtering and it will back fire then turns off I pull it to the edge of the road start it up again some times it will turn over and start or ill need to Wight for it to start buy keep cranking it over in till it does start then I try and find idle when I do get it to go back to idle it will still sputter but it will kind of fix it self then ill put it in to drive and start driven but a mile or two down the road or a minute after it will sputter out again it will do this if the engine is hot or cold so fare I got told it can be a couple of things so I fixed and put in a new fuel filter, fuel pump, new plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributor cap, new ignition coil, new fuel injector presser regulator, and I thought it mite be water in my gas so I drained it out dried it out and put new fuel from shell and dry gas additive in it it still stalls out and dies the same way every time and I thought it would be my alternator but my battery will never die and always keeps a charge so I don’t think it can be that however I did not replace the distributor or injectors and I also got told I’m mite be my manifold I’m all out of answers if you can tell me what it mite be I’m open for answers and any questions thanks Nick

OMG!!! After changing: fuel filter, plugs, wires, distributor (reman) and cap...it still quit!. I KNOW WHAT IT IS! When they reman a distributor or even on new ones NOT from Honda...they don't replace the protective guard on top of the distributor. So as heat builds up under the cap, resisters get hot and shut your car down. Forget going to the parts store, they don't have a clue. Honda is the only place to get this part ($11.60). And it works! - Barbie

Car is fully warm, stalls suddenly while driving, then won't restart unless you let cool down for a while

2003 civic stalls at stop


If a Honda is not producing enough amps it could cause it to stall but the battery should die if its the alternator. Sounds like the coil or distibutor.

1998 Honda Civic relearn idle


Just drive the car as you normally would and the CPU will automaticly relearn your driving habits and be fine. It may stall the first few miles till it learns you want it to continue to drive it. Just avoid heavy traffic areas the first few miles. I hope this helps you out.

Just shut off the care returned 2 hours later no go got a boost went for a drive left the car running for awhile than it start to get like it was going to stall went on g=for a littlwe while than died....


Hi your problem sounds like the battery is gone and won`t take a charge. When your engine is running the alternator is supplying the electrical power to run the car ( and normally charging the
battery as well )
Even though it seems strange for the battery to go suddenly, it does happen.
How old is the bat. Most last about 5 years with normal driving ( batterys last longer if the car is used every day )

I have a 1990 civic si with a intermittant start and stall shut off warm put fuel in it go to start and stalls do this two or three times and stays running may not happen for a week or two or will happen...


well i had this trouble with one came in with out haveing a scan tool witch you sold,cheers,regeehould invest in most canadian tire stores carry $30-$50 bucks well worth it you do not want to gue$$ this problem but souding like 02 sensor in manifold bank 1 meaning 1st one in the exsaust engine manif

1997 Honda Civic dies while driving but will restart


It sounds like your car needs a good solid tune up. It sounds like the injectors are fighting to get fuel so the slower you go the chances of you stalling is even greater. And the faster you go the fuel system is just getting just enough fuel that the car needs to keep running.....I hate to say this but it sounds like you need a tune up.

Poor Idle, dies at stopsigns


I have used this fix for your problem for 20 years.
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

TRY TURNING UP YOUR IDLE ALSO have it tuned up not enough spark will cause ths prob.
