Probably there is a big leak in your trans lines, trans pan gasket or radiator trans cooling lines. trans fluid become yellow mix with snow or ice.

Hi Brenjen, transmission fluid is traditionally "red" and I do not by into the response that it somehow "turns" yellow in snow or ice! I don't know if you ever found a solution to your answer, but the same thing happened to me this year with my Toyota Camry. I ruled out transmission fluid and Toyota coolant because both are red. Oil is typically brownish to dark brown - depending on your oil change cycle. I ruled out anything from an animal, because it didn't have that type of odor. So, I did some research and came across an excellent Toyota forum web-site that sounds EXTREMELY reliable concerning this problem. (I also bounced this question off of my brother-in-law who lives in Maine and sure enough, he's seen the same problem under his vehicles. btw: I believe most people don't notice this issue because they typically get into their vehicle, start it and take off. It's a sight that goes unnoticed by most people. But, when you do notice - perhaps moving the car a little and getting out - it causes concern because you "think" your vehicle is leaking some fluid.) I'm quite sure this response will help many others!!! And, this problem is not limited to Toyota's either, although it may be more typical with older vehicles that have been subjected to time, weather, salt, etc: Neon Lime Green yellow Fluid Leak Solved Rav 4 Club

Why wont my 04 Envoy wont go into drive

The valve body has failed inside the transmission. . It's possible the shift solenoids or the transmission control module are faulty as well.

Four wheel drive

Try engaging the 4wd H when the vehicle is rolling slowly and in gear . Sometimes if the unit is actuated the gears will not line up an get stuck on the end of each other and will not mesh. If the gears are turning this is unlikely to occur and meshing is easier.. have the actuator checked (part that actually does the changing) and check the wiring or vacuum hoses if any used as there may be a leak or wiring /connector problem ( water /moisture/ dirty pins etc)

4 Wheel drive (Manual trans) not engaging

First, IF your vehicle has a true manual-engage for the 4-wheel drive, then you either have a linkage that needs adjusted, or there is a problem inside the transfer-case (ie- broken shift-lever, broken chain, or loose gear, depending on which metod of drive it has (they WERE gear-to-gear, in my 1981 Isuzu, which means no chain to break...)
OR- if your vehicle has the same system of activation on the 4-wheel drive, as the Chevrolets of that era (Isuzu and Chevrolet were together and may still be), it's probably a vacuum problem. See, there is a vacuum-pot that pulls the cable to actuate (lock-in) the front-axle, using vacuum from a line on the transfer-case (vacuum that comes from the engine). IF there is a hole in any of the lines &/or if the vacuum-pot itself has a hole in it, then your 4-wheel drive linkage (on the front-axle) WON'T be pulled-in, so it won't engage, at all. This happened to me in my 2000 ZR2 during a snow-storm! It clicked, but wouldn't engage.
Go online or get a reference-manual from Oreilly's, Autozone, etc. to see how your system is actually actuated.
If it is manually actuated, then look for a linkage or a line that needs adjusted (HOPE it's not inside the case!) or IF it is vacuum actuated, then you can test it by starting the engine and spraying all the lines and the vacuum-pot with WD40 or other aerosol, to see if the engine revs- which will tell you where the problem (leak) is.
Either way, GOOD luck!

Losing power going up hills

sounds pretty normal. what speed do you try out the passing gear? anything above 35-45 mph and it will feel like neutral. Passing gear is actually only 1st gear. When you press down the pedal, it forces the transmisson to shift into low gear.

My transmission is slipping

The clutch lining worn out n the lining powder stuck on the transmission filter so transmission fluid pass through the filter clogged.. Only way is to repair the transmission or replace the whole transmission.

You should be able to put in 4x4 while in drive less than 35mph. Mine had a switch to turn to engage or dis-engage.

Unless you have run over something or something has hit the linkage that you may possibly repair to adjust the gear locations to their proper place on the trans, you must get trans checked out.
