Question about 2002 GMC Envoy

2002 Envoy dim lights

My '02 Envoy dim lamps went out at the same time. The fuses are good, as are, the bulbs. As far as I can tell there is a relay for the bright lights,
but not the dim. What is the problem?

My cousin had this problem, and she actually called GM. The rep walked her through the trouble shooting and determined it was simply the control switch. A quick part replacement solved the problem. I do not have any links for the part,, but they are readily available.

Headlights went dim replaced bulbs and they were fine. They went dim again within a couple days then went back to normal by themselves. Were fine for a couple weeks now are dim again?please help thnks


Sounds like a poor electrical connection - independent of the light bulbs. Many times the ground connection to the the steel frame / chassis becomes corroded resulting in a lowered voltage on the circuit (instead of 12V reaching the lamps - only 9 or 10 volts gets to them). Try gently tugging / shaking the wires at the lamp / wiring harness to see if the lamps get bright / dim again. This will help you narrow down where the loose connection lies. If you can't find the loose connection, you can also simply supplement the ground wire on the lamp circuit with another parallel wire with one end connected to the (-) post of the battery and the other to the ground wire on the head lamp. If it was a ground connection problem - this supplemental wire will solve the problem.

Check fuse's in the rear fuse box. LR PARK fuse #14 10A - RR PARK #17 10A - Fuse Block - Rear Beneath the left rear seat
An the park lamp relay #30 in same rear fuse box , Do you know what a BCM - body control module is ?
The body control module (BCM) provides a ground or control circuit to the park lamp relay coil circuit. When the park lamps are turned on, the BCM energizes the park lamp relay. Current flow is from the park lamp relay to the individual park lamp circuit fuses and to their respective park, tail, marker, and license lamps. The front park and marker lamps are grounded at G107 and G103. The tail lamps are grounded at G401 and G402

Why wont the headights or running lights work on my 2002 Buick LaSabre?


There are several reasons why your headlamps an running lights don't work , the headlamp switch is a good one ,plus relays an the DIM - dash integrated module an associated wiring ! Here is how the headlamps work , right out of Buick factory service info !
The dash integration module (DIM) provides battery positive voltage to the signal circuits of the headlamp switch. The signal circuits include the headlamp switch headlamps on signal, the flash to pass switch signal and the high beam input. With the headlamp switch in the ON position, a ground path is available for the headlamp switch headlamps on signal circuit of the DIM through the headlamp switch. The DIM provides ground to either the headlamps high beam relay control circuit or the headlamps low beam relay control circuit of the low beam circuit. The position of the headlamp dimmer switch determines which relay control circuit has ground. The DIM supplies battery positive voltage to the relay control circuits, if the headlamps are necessary. The fuse block - underhood supplies battery positive voltage to both relay switch circuits. When the low beam relay control circuit is energized, current flow is to both low beam fuses and to the low beam headlamps. The headlamps have ground at G103 and at G401. When the headlamp high beam relay control circuit is energized, current flow is to both high beam fuses and to the high beam headlamps. The high beam circuit is divided into a left and right side circuit. The current flow of the left high beam is from the fuse to the left high beam lamp. From the lamp, the current flows to the normally-closed contact of the DRL relay to G103. The current flow of the right high beam is from the fuse to the right high beam lamp. From the lamp, the current flow is to ground at G401. When the headlamp dimmer switch lever is pulled toward the driver, the flash-to-pass switch closes. This grounds the DIM flash to pass switch signal circuit. In response to this input, the DIM energizes the HDLP HI BM relay. Both high beams remain on until the driver releases the switch handle. If the low beam headlamps were on during a flash to pass operation, the low beams remain on. The headlights may be switched to high beam with the opposite movement of the headlamp dimmer switch lever.
By running lights , do you mean park lamps or day time running lamps ?
Park, Tail, License and Marker Lamps
The park lamps, including the license lamps, are turned on when the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK or ON position or anytime the headlights are requested. The fuse block - rear supplies battery positive voltage to the switch contacts of the Park LP relay. When the headlamp switch is in PARK or in ON, the park lamp switch on signal circuit of the DIM has a ground path. The DIM provides battery positive voltage to the control circuit of the Park LP relay. When the park lamps and/or the tail lamps are ON, the DIM energizes the park lamp relay control circuit. This closes the switch contacts. Current flows from the Park LP relay to the LH PARK LP and the RH PARK LP fuses. From the fuse, the current flows to the park lamps. The left park lamps are grounded at G103, G401 and G402. The right park lamps and the right tail lamps are grounded at G103 and G401. The DIMR fuse supplies battery positive voltage to the license lamps and to the DIM instrument panel lamp fuse supply voltage - 1 circuit, for interior lamps dimming. The license lamps are grounded at G401.
The best advice I can give is that you take this to a ASE certified professional repair facility unless your a qualified automotive electric repair person !

I have a 2003 suzuki xl7 what causes the tail lights not to work when ive checked the bulbs and fuses and they are good


it can only be 3 things, blown fuse, (test them not gander)
open circuit or short circuit.
are you saying park running lights are dead, aka, TAIL.
are the park lights working up front, ? and on dash?
1st click of head light switch is park. that is dead,at all lamp inside and outside of car?
02 xl7 (usa car answers, we do, here, as it is a USA forum)

this car has a BCM, body brain.
and it runs most things, we scan it first to see if IT has issues.
called DTCs.
when you select TAIL, at switch this is a digital input to BCM
true (0v = true) signal tells BCM you want tail/ parks on.

it (BCM) then closes relay 23 (seen below) park/tail relay
if the fuse is not blown, then this relay glows the dash
Illumination lights (park dim) are yours glowing now.
yes the all that is good fuse to dash.
now out side car, lots of tail/park lamps, which dont glow, just rear?

2 out of 3 brake lights dont work


If any light lights up when you apply brakes, then the brake switch is ok. The problem could be a fuse and/or a relay. or the bulbs. Those bulbs are dual filament so one filament could be bad, for stop or tail lights.

2004 envoy xuv low beams went out all other lights work checked fuses and switched relays 45 and 46 and still not working any ideas?


Try to see if the bulbs blew out by replacing the bulbs first. If they still won't light, it could be bad grounds or connections or bad continuity in the wiring to the headlight relays or switch. Good luck on this repair.

Where is the relay and/or in line fuse for the back up lights on a 2002 GMC Envoy. New bulbs and fuses are fine in both fuse boxes. Still not working so there must be a in line fuse or relay out?


check the neutral safety switch. connected to the shift lever, keeps you from running the starter unless in park or neutral, AND it turns on the back up lights when in reverse.

I have a 2002 envoy slt my daytime running lights just went out all other lights works ckd bulbs fuses and relay they all seem good dimmer switch appears to be good what else can i ck or what could problem...


Their is a photo light sensor someware on the top of you dashboard or on backside of rearview mirror that has been covered possibly dash mat ? something hung on your rearview mirror.let me know.

Brake lights won't work. tail lights do. I


need to know if your third brake light up high is working or not.if it isn't,you need to check the brake light switch on the brake pedal with a test light,one side hot all the time,the other side should turn hot when brake pedal is pushed.

My low headlight in my envoy 2002 is down i checked the fuse and still no luck


If this low beam is on one headlight only, I would say that the light is burnt out. Both hi and low beams are on the same bulb.The bulb has 2 filiments, one low and one hi. If you get just one light out , it is most likely a bulb. If you get both sides not working at the same time, it could be something else. You have checked the fuses and deemed them to be o/k. Then you should be checking for headlight bulbs.
