SOURCE: ignition switch

lol ok. turn the key until all the lights on the dash come on. then there is a really small hole just under the switch that you will have to put a really small screwdriver in and hit it to push the lock button. while you do that pull the switch out. and just push the new one in and thats it

SOURCE: fuel cut off switch for 1990/91 ford escort 1.9

The "inertia switch" which shuts off fuel to the engine in the event of a collision or jolt on a 1991 through 1996 models, as well as on 1998 coupes, is located in the rear of the vehicle, near the right (passenger's side) strut tower. On sedan and coupe models, open the trunk and remove the right-sided trim panel. On sedan and coupe models, open the trunk and remove the right-side trim panel. On hatchback and wagon models, there may be an access door secured by clips. On some models you may need to remove the lower quarter trim panel on the right side, however it is easier to cut an access hole directly above the switch.

SOURCE: Need to change the ignition switch

Remove panel under steering wheel. Put key in cylinder and turn back to accessory position. Looking under lower part of steering column locate a small pin under the key cylinder. While depressing the pin turn the key backwards and pull the entire cylinder with key out of column. Good luck.

1992 bronco fullsize won't turn off with key replaced both ignition switch & steering column switch with still turn on with key but won't shut off

I had a similar problem with an '86 Bronco. It would start just fine but wouldn't turn off. The problem I experienced was with the linkage between the key switch and the ignition switch. When you start the truck it pushes the linkage, when you turn it off it pulls the linkage. A very small pin had fallen out that allowed the key switch to pull the linkage back and turn off the ignition switch. I wasn't able to find a replacement part and ended up drilling and tapping the hole where the pin went and making my own "threaded in" pin (used lots of loctite). You really have to take a lot of the steering column apart to get to the piece in question. If you are still having the problem contact me thru FixYa and I'll send you the diagrams I have.

The ignition switch is hanging up in my 1990 ford bronco,

I just had that same problem on a silverado. Yes, you have to replace the switch. Autozone has a tool you can use to remove the steering wheel. If you are not mechanically inclinced you can still do this. Removing the steering wheel sounds scary, or at least it did to me, but it wasnt bad at all.

My son is interested in buying a 1990 Ford Bronco. It needs a new ignition switch. Is this a difficult task? Would he have to take off the steering wheel?

Yes he would have to take off the steering wheel. The job will take about an hour and need some tools that could be easily obtained at the auto parts store usually at no cost. The ignition switch itself would be around $12. Well worth the investment if vehicle is running good.

1990 Ford Bronco Fullsize

You will have to replace the connector, the contacts have been overheated and you will have more problems, if you can't get a repair connector from Ford try getting a good used one, all Ford models used the hardshell section, you may have to move around wires and splice in any new connectors needed. Before you start make a simple diagram of where the wires go.
