Question about 1999 Kia Sephia

I have a 1999 Kia Sephia. We have put on new batteries, and had the electrical parts checked which checked out ok, but the batteries will not hold charge. Could you please tell me what the problem could be?

Check for an amp draw of more than .2 Amps. If there is, there is an excessive draw in the system making the battery go down prematurely.

Also, check that the alternator is charging the car sufficiently.

Tests on the battery and charging and starting system can be performed at your local autozone or advance auto parts, or Sears, or Walmart Battery retailer for free or a nominal cost.

Good luck with this repair.

Hi, it is likely you have a short in the car. This can be very difficult to find. If you would like to try finding it yourself, please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . Otherwise, I recommend you take the car to a good automotive electrician. Thanks for using FixYa.

1999 kia engine shakes while in drive and brake pressed at complete stop

NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!! NEVER PUT WATER IN YOUR BATTERY. batteries contain acid you shouldnt mix acid with water thats how you corode the battery and mess it up. i had the same issue with my sephia its bad motor mounts most likely the passenger side i would replace both of the ones in the fron one located front driver side near the side of the engine and the one on the passenger side is connected alond your pulleys. even though if your car is parked and you shake your car you won't hear anything loose until u put the gear in drive trust me i had the same problem its motor mounts. not the battery and not the alternator the alternator deals with the electricity to the car and contacts itself with the battery not your gears or mechanicals.its the notor mounts for this car they were like $60 each i believe at autozone dont get junk ones u might be getting bad ones get new ones

I need to replace the starter on my 1999 Kia Sephia and I would like to do it myself because I can't afford the mechanics bill.

Hi,
This starter changes just like most starter. 3 bolts and remove the wiring. Make sure to disconnect the battery first before starting the repair. It is pretty straight forward with any starter removal. Here is an excerpt from someone who made the same repair
"I removed the Air Intake tube. I also removed the battery and put it on
the side! One the right side of the engine, from above I was able to
remove 2 of the bolts holding on the starter. I then jacked up the car
and was able, with considerable gymnastics, to remove the bottom bolt.
Point - Only use a 14mm wrench or socket. From back on top, I was able
to slide the starter to the right and remove the power cable and the
solanoid cable. Down at the NAPA Store in my town, they put the old
starter on the bench and it failed 5 out of the 6 tests! I picked up a
new one - minus the $60 core charge, for $105 with tax, put it in and
the car starts like a dream. Total time for this amatuer; 3 hours."

My 2001 kia sephia will not hold a charge. i have had both the battery and alternator tested at a parts store, and both tested good. what else could be the problem?

You might have a bigger electrical problem. One of your cables might be grounded this way allowing all flow of electricity to go to the chasis of the car, draining your battery. Check E.C.U. with mechanic

Good luck
