Well, you can't easily do it, as the level in the overflow tank is where you usually fill and check the level.

You could wait until the car's engine is cool and remove the upper radiator hose, to see if fluid comes out, but then you'll have to refill with new fluid.

We have a 1998 Ford Taurus that consumed a lot of fluid until the water pump and the seal for the oil pump was replaced.

Also, we had some other lines replaced that rusted through.

Good luck on your repair.

THE TEMP GAGE KEEPS GOING UP HIGH THEN DOWN WHILE DRIVING . THE FAN ISNT BLOWING WARM AIR EITHER WELL SOMETIMES IT DOES

This seem like the case of low coolant level, check your coolant resivior and if it's empty or low, fill it up to max. Also you may need to fill coolant into the radiator via the radiator cap. You should be good to go.

After flushing radiator for 1986 Ford Taurus, where do the coolant go? In the radiator or in the reservoir? And Do you have to idle with heat at full blast before adding the coolant?

Put the coolant directly into the radiator until it's full. Start the engine and run it, watching the fluid level. Keep the coolant within one inch of the neck. Fill the reservoir about half way when the radiator is full.

Radiator

Your radiator is up front, it has a cap on the top and an expansion tank with a cap on it. Pull the cap off when it is cold, and check the coolant, dill it up in the radiator and fill the expansion tank to the mark on the side. It will level itself out as you drive if you put in too much. You have a condenser in front of the radiator that cools the AC unit. It has no cap, and no access, just don't want to confuse the two.Hope this helps.

Where do you fill radiator on 02 taurus ses? my husband is changing the thermostat, drained the radiator and says there is no radiator cap, just a reserve tank and cap - does he fill it through the...

YES. But dont overfill it. Slowly add coolant to the low full line and let it run a while, like 10 minutes. if the level goes down fill it to the full line. After it cools for 30 minutes recheck the level and add as needed.

Overheating

You have an air lock in the cooling system.
Do this: pull upper radiator hose off the radiator leaving it connected to the block, pour coolant into hose until filled ( you might have to do it to the radiator also). Once filled reconnected hose back to the radiator, then fill resevior to proper level. Start car turn heater on full. Let car run with cap off resevior until it starts pulling coolant in. Once warmed up shut car off let cool. Check fluid level again.
