Installing thermostat

Yes, usually there is a little recess the thermostat fits into. Check for proper direction, and which way is up. Instructions usually with new one. I recommend a new one. They're cheap.

How do you change the thermostat on a 2001 chevy s-10 4.3 liter v-6

Hello rev7, this is an easy job on the 4.3 litre engine.

Drain some of the engine coolant by placing a bucket under the radiator and open the petcock (the plastic bolt facing the engine) located on the bottom of the radiator. Empty the coolant from the radiator until the radiator is about half full.

Remove the air intake, hose and the coolant neck (outlet) bolts using a ratchet and & 13 mm socket. Remove the outlet from the intake manifold. Take note of the direction the thermostat is seated and then remove the thermostat from the housing.
Clean the remains of the old gasket or sealer from the housing and outlet. Install the thermostat and gasket to the intake manifold in the same direction it was seated before removal. Put a thin layer of silicone on the water outlet surface. Install the outlet before the silicone dries

Install the water outlet bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 foot pounds
Filll the radiator completely and check for any leaks. Install the radiator cap. Install the air cleaner inlet hose. Start the engine and turn the heater on with the blower on high & run the engine until the thermostat opens. The top radiator hose will be hot when the thermostat opens.

Turn off the vehicle and allow the engine to cool. Check fluid level and add more antifreeze if needed.....Good luck & hope this helps.

Were is the thermostat located on a 97 cavalier with a 2.4

Follow the top radiator hose to where it connects to the engine, there should be a metal removable housing there with the thermostat inside. Be sure to replace the gasket after installing a new thermostat and also be sure the thermostat is placed in the correct direction for coolant flow.

How and where do i change the thermostat in my van

Hello dcb. The thermostat is located in the hose coming from the radiator and is located on the top of the engine on the right side. If you remove the air breather box first it will give you some room to work but the back bolt on the thermostat is really difficult to get out due to lack of room to move the wrench. Make sure the coolant is not hot before you begin. MAKE A NOTE OF THE ARROW ON THE THERMOSTAT INDICATING THE DIRECTION OF FLOW SO YOU CAN MOUNT THE NEW ONE IN THE SAME DIRECTION. Make sure you have the necessary wrenches to remove each bolt, and have the new thermostat and gasket ready to install.

All you do is lower the level of coolant within the radiator by opening the lower stop **** [unless the level is already down], then remove the two bolts and use a putty knife blade to loosen the gasket which is usually somewhat "welded" to the thermostat. Once you have the old thermostat out, scrape off any remaining gasket material and then install the new gasket and thermostat paying attention to make sure the new thermostat direction arrow is pointing in the same direction as the old one did.

Where is the thermostat on a Ford Probe Lx and how do I change it? What direction does the thermostat point when installed?

your thermostat is located right under the radiator cap. it only points one direction in the tube. you should only have to pull 2 bolts to remove the peice to get to it.
