Hi, this is about my moms grand cherokee 93. The steering colummn/shaft has been disconnected from the steering wheel. it is somehow easily pulled out of place and the steering wheel goes loose and with no control over the wheels. this happened twice already, and i could only push the column back towards the steering wheel just by expanding it, but it doesnt seem to click anywhere or go any deeper. how can i do to make it stay in place? because i went to see other cars same brand and year to a junk yard, and the column its fixed to the steering wheel somehow, (tried to pull it out by hand and stayed in place) and if i do it in my moms car the column would come enough far enough to that it disconnects from the steering wheel.

Is the steering wheel its self coming up or the shaft were it connects in the floor coming up. This would help me solve your problem . If its the wheel there is a 18mm nut behind the air bag that holds the steering to shaft.
2ND If it is in the floor shaft there should be a bolt holding the two shafts together, you might have to pull carpet back to see if bolt is in the slot that holds the two shafts together.
If i can be any help just repost. Thanks, dodge tec

the steering shaft stretches and goes out toward the front wheels, doesnt come out completely, but enough to disconnect from the steering wheel. (under the hood the steering shaft has a spring thas is sort of loose, cuz its not being pressed)

Why is my 93 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 v8 whining?

Did you check all the fluids? Power steering can whine when fluid levels get low. I would think of things that are driven by the engine: power steering pump (check the power steering fluid), AC compressor, water pump, and so on.

Check out the belt tensioner; make sure it's not too tight, and that the pulley is properly lubricated. If that doesn't fix it, ask your mechanic about timing belt issues (fairly soon).

Hope helps.

All of the lights work on my 93 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl except the taillights. Can't seem to find a fuse out and I've replaced bulbs which I've tested and know they work.

There is a plug under the dash, directly under the steering column, that sometimes gets unplugged accidently. From what I remember, it's white. Check to see if any of them white plugs directly under there are slightly unplugged. Happened on my 93 grand cherokee once and I almost got rear ended from having no brake lights.

Not sure why you disconnected the battery to replace plugs, but try locking and unlocking the drivers door using the key. That should re-set the security system.

What is required to take the steering wheel off of my grand chreokee? Tools etc.

you will need to disconnect the battery so the air bag don't blow, remove the screws under the steering wheel to lift the air bag and horn pad off, that will let you see the steering shaft nut and a plastic horn connector that you will push down and turn counter clock wise to unhook, now before you remove nut straighten the steering wheel and lock the steering, remove nut,and using a puller ,off it comes.
