Question about 1997 Saturn SL

1 Answer

My 1997 Saturn SL2 has recently been having issues with the Low coolant light and Temp. light flashing, or staying on. The cooling system was flushed, and the car then over heated. The thermostat has now been replaced but the two lights continue to either blink randomly or stay on for 5-10 minutes, then turn off. There has not yet been another issue with overheating. I know there is another coolant sensor, but am not able to locate it on the car. Is there possibly another issue, or something electrical? Any help is appreciated.

What does it mean when the coolant light flashes on your dashboard?

It means there is an issue going on with your cooling system. Could be that its overheating. Check your fluid levels and check for leaks.

My 1998 saturn sl2 overheated temp gauge was only on half mark and its only 9 degrees outside heater never warmed up

Check your coolant level. Most causes of no heat are low coolant levels or blocked heater cores. If it overheated and has no heat I'll beat its a low coolant level. Check for leaks. Just because the gauge didn't go all the way up doesn't mean much. Those cars trap air in the cooling systems when the level gets low. That will cause those problems. Check for leaks and if a repair is made I also recommend a termistat.

Two lights come on my dashboard.

Hi!!

Probably your coolant level is low. With motor off and cool, check coolant level. if low, fill it to the MAX COLD mark. DO NOT OVERFILL.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!!

Replaced water pump, alternator, radiator, crank sensor and no coolant leaks and car has antifreeze, but why is low coolant dashboard indicator light keep flashing on 97 saturn sl2

Inside the coolant reserve tank there is a sensor for coolant level.

Over time, this sensor can get stick.

Inspect the coolant reserve tank for crack or leak.

Locate the coolant level switch/sensor and soak it in clean warm water.

Make sure it's free to move up and down the float path.

Top off the coolant tank with coolant only.

Saturn SL2

It sounds like the car is over heating. Have the thermostat changed and go from there. If this doesn't help have your technician look at the radiator and coolant system. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Temp light

That's the low coolant warning lamp. Most likely just needs coolant level topped of.I would watch for spots on driveway. Also replace your coolant resevoir cap, they are cheap & common to fail.Hope This helps!!

97 saturn sl2 temp light flashing and low coolant light flashing what could be the problem ? coolant is full and the heat works.

If the temp gauge is reading normal, the lights are flashing, and the coolant level is full, the level sensor in the coolant bottle is the problem. I'm a service consultant for a Saturn dealer and I've run across this many times.
