Your best bet would be to find a Tech like this guy , with the right diagnostic equiment . Door Locks Go Crazy 1 Unless you know how to do automotive electrical testing . Your door ajar switch is a input to a body control module . or GEM as ford calls thiers .
Door Locks Go Crazy 2 Your auto lights are controlled pretty much the same .
Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know

Do you know what DTC"S are ? diagnostic trouble codes ! You probably have a door ajar switch problem . You need a factory or professional type scan tool to check these codes

  • The Autolamps Are On Continuously
  • Circuitry.
  • Headlamp relay.
  • Light sensor amplifier.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test H .
  • The Autolamp Time Delay Is Inoperative
  • Fuse(s).
  • Light sensor amplifier.
  • Headlamp switch.
  • Circuitry.
  • VERIFY parking lamp operation. If OK, REPLACE the light sensor amplifier. If any parking lamp concerns exist, Parking, Rear and License Lamps REFER to Parking, Rear or License Lamps.

Do you see how complex these systems can be for someone that doesn't deal with these problems on a daily base's ! Check for codes an if there are any , doing the diagnostic's associated with it . Without doing the diagnostic's you could replace parts all day long an not fix the problem .

Rear door ajar light stay on

I believe the sensor is in the door latch/lock the only way to fix is replace it. I had a similar problem and the door worked as designed.

My righr rear door sensor say door ajar

I have the same problem with my left rear door (it also sets off the alarm at times when parked). I take some wd40 and spray it into the inside lock slide and move it back and forth a few times. that seems to fix it.

Door ajar sensor

Its a thick pin surrounded by a rubber ring/bellows that is in the doorframe of each door. Each pin operates a switch. When the door closes it presses the pin in and when it opens the pin slides out so it protrudes into the door frame. Open each door one at a time and press in the pin with something strong like a shoe heel, this simulates that door being closed. Do it several times, till you find which switch is not working all the time. Change that switch by removing the rubber surround and unscrewing its fasteners.

Lights flash on interior ,97 expidition if othe than driver door open works normal

This problem is caused by a tiny switch on the door latch inside the doors and rear hatch called the "Door Ajar" switch. This is a common problem and to fix it you must remove all the door panels and glass run channels to access the twist in switch on the door latch. The switch can be tested electronically with a special dealer scanner called an "NGS" and the defective switch pin pointed with removing the door panels and rear tailgate panel. The switch is cheap and you can buy it at most parts stores for less than $8.00 See picture below.

Inside light won't turn off

Check the door frame sensors one by one. push them repeatedly and see if any of them have a strange feeling, like dragging on the way in, for example. If no luck, extract the sensors one by one and disconnect the plug. If the light goes out by unplugging, the sensor is bad. Tailgate sensors go easily out of adjustment, and maybe the pin is not going all the way in. Also, check if the door / tailgate ajar idiot light is on, because that could point you toward the faulty sensor.

My freestyle keeps saying left rear door ajar, inside lights will not go out,had to pull the fuse to get light off. is this a majoe computer/electrical issue?

no. odds are it's just a faulty door switch. Probally 20 bucks for the switch at local auto parts store. Never replaced one on a ford explorer so I can't give you step by step instructions on this vechile.

Inside the latch is 2 strips and a pin. the pin pushes the strips together. these strips bend and corrode the latch might not be turning to fully closed then the pin won't close the contacts. Spray Graphite lube in and work the latch with a screwdriver There is a plastic coating that might have worn thru on the latch finger The sensor is there for your safety Caravan's would eject passengers if latch is not secure. But that said bypass if all else fails.

Door ajar light on, 1996 aerostar, where are the sensors located?

the door ajar sensor is located on the door latch assembly, u must detrim the door and then remove the rear most window guide rail, it twists into the latch at rear of latch, it is very small and a real pain to change.

Where are the door pins for the door ajar light

The door ajar switches are located inside the door they are attached to the door latch assembly, they twist in, you will need to remove the rear window glass run channel to access them, this is your problem, the switches stick and cause this problem. There is a TSB concerning this problem as well.
