Hi and welcome to FixYa!
The release cable surely is faulty. Try to trace down the wire an pull it manually to open the hood. By then you can start the cable replacement.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

So my hood latch wont latc the hood when the hood is closed and im worried it will come up and hit my windshield so i have it bungeed cord how can i fix this

check the cable that runs from the passenger compartment out to the hood. if it is stuck pulled out the it will hold the latch in released position. look down at the latch and you will see the cable . use a screw driver to work the cable and see if it is working freely. if not replace it and happy motoring.. another thing ot check if it is working properly is the latch adjustment. if it somehow got pushed down it wont be able to close around the hood bar and hold it. you should hear that click when it closes. simple fix is to loosen the bolts and raise it up a little and tighten it back up.

lube the latch mechanism and with a screw driver try to lock the latch. if it latches then you need to loosen the latch and move it up. if it doesnt lock make sure where the cable pulls on the latch popped back in. if the lock where the cable is popped back in and it still wont latch it maybe worn out and needs replaced

Hood wont latch closed on '02 vw passat

Hood latch is probably gummed up so the release cable does not return. Try some carb cleaner to clean it, then some spray lithium grease to lubricate it.

Front hood wont lock closed. i drop the hood and it doesnt catch. it catches on loosely but not the secure closure

you have a problem with your primary hood latch, your secondary latch keeps it from flying up into your windshield. inspect the pri. latch, it may have stuck and won't close. a thorough soaking with a good penetrating oil usually frees it up. if not you may have to replace the latch.

Engine hood wont open hood pull handle pulls out but wont release

Try pulling on the hood release, while someone else lifts the hood. If this doesn't work. You can access the underside of the hood release by taking the front grille out. If you look closely you'll see the retainer screws that can be removed from the front. Once the grille is out or loosened enougt to get your hand in behind, you can release the hood latch from the underside with a screwdriver and then repair the hood latch after you've opened it.

I think your cable came loose from the latch. try to see it through the grill, maybe you can get to it with a long flat tip screwdriver

Hood wont close

the alignment must be off...are all the seams on the side equal?
Has someone sat on or bumped the hood?  Can you see what's hitting?  Is the hood pin going into the hood latch?  Has someone played with the latch while the hood is up and it's not in position to receive the latch pin?
