Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I came home the other day from work it started fine when i got home i turned it off wanted to go back i turned the key the lights come on but would not crank starter didnt even turn over it like it is out of park but its not have any ideas i have replaced the key clynder and the electric ing.
Your dealership can read the codes (malfunctions) on the cars computer. Mine was the "neutral safety switch" Did the same thing, sometimes it would start and sometimes not. It is a $500 fix, but it will only get worse, back up lights go out, sticks in park (at the gas station) very embarrassing.

Sounds like the starter is on the way out. Tap the starter with a hammer (that's TAP, not beat it with a sledge hammer) the next time it won't start. Sounds like its binding up, and many times a tap (or a few taps) will free it up. This is just a temp. fix, you need to replace the starter.countrycurt0

I've had a similar problem to the above and although I'm not sure what causes the problem, I just depress the brake, put it in neutral and start it right up.

It could be the pnp switch (park neutral position) but if that was the problem you wouldnt be able to turn the key all the way to the start position can u
