This is doing self checks and recoginizing an issue. Find a local auto parts store in your area which will "scan" the vehicle for codes for FREE! Once you have the codes, it should be easier to fix the issue. The fact that it is blinking, leads to believe that there may be a bigger issue. Have it scanned and let me know what they find. Happy new year.

The check / service engine light means there is a problem with the performance the engine computer has detected. The flashing light means the problem is serious.
You need to have the engine computer checked for trouble codes to proceed.

1990 pontiac bonneville 3800 v-6 has a code 14

Look for a Bad Plug in on the harness, and trace the harness backwards looking for chafing that can cause leak off and voltage reduction.

Warning light: Tell tale light showing all the time

this problem on a megane coupe is caused by a small air pipe that connects to a 2 inch wide black box that is located under the bonnet near the windscreen on the passangers side. the zigzag light indicates an electrical fault (in this case lack of compression and will affect your revs) if you find this pipe and it has snapped off. the reason for this may be that your engien is lose and moves. grab the engien with 2 hands and see if you can wobble it with allot of play. if so your engien mountings need replaceing. you may also experiance juddering in low gears
