Question about 1996 Dodge Caravan
I had a 1995 Plymonth Vorager. (3.0 L V6) These vans came with several engine sizes and types. On my vehicle I had a stalling problem in both drive and reverse. I found that the small engine idle passageway bypassing the air inlet valve to the main engine air manfold was clogged with dirt and sludge buildup from the fuel fumes when the engine is shut off. In this condition, it would not allow enough air to pass when the engine is in idle. At idle, the main valve is closed. Under load, such as being in gear and the vehicle stopped, the engine would die if it does not get enough air. I used carburator cleaner to soak and clean out the passageway. The air filter might also be dirty and need to be replaced. If you are not familure with this maintenace, I would suggest taking it to a trusted garage to replace the air filter and have them clean out the enigne air valve and inlet area. Hopefully it will be that simple. If you still have issues after this, you may have to have the transmission looked at.
Hope this helps.
