Question about 1998 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

98 Nissan Altima Grinding Noise? My mother in law has a 98 nissan altima with an automatic. She recently had the rotors turned and a tie rod end replaced at a local shop. A couple days after the work was done she heard a grinding noise coming from the front end. It sounded like brake pads were grinding so I checked it out. The pads are ok, probably about 50%. I couldnt see anything grinding so I jacked the car up and removed the front wheels. I put the car in drive with the hubs spinning. When you apply the brakes there is a grinding noise that sounds like its coming from the transmission area possible where the axles meet. I know they have also had the axles replaced within the last year so I wouldnt think they would be damaged. It sounds like it may be a bearing grinding somewhere. Any advice? Thanks. Additional Details Also checked both the rotors and they are smooth with no brake pads rubbing. The noise also comes when slowing down not pushing the brakes, like if you down shift the car. Its definately coming from the center somewhere.

Hello i would check your wheel bearings or sometimes called bearing hub .Jack car up prop the car with axle stands now remove your tires and rotors once removed wiggle you bearing hub left to the right your bearing hub should have minimal play one side to the other is obvious the looser play hub will be your noise you have been experiencing.most people call this road noise.

How much does it cost to repair a tie rod on a 2003 nissan altima

Depending if power/streeing or manuel/streeing.
Inner tie rod $50.00 - $150.00 each part only.
outer tie rod $30.00 - $75.00 each part only.
labor 1.0 flag rate on outer tie rod per side.
labor 1.3 flag rate on inner tie rod per side.
Flag rate X shops hourly rate = labor cost.

Clicking or taping noise when rolling over small bumps, out of front end sounds like steering or suspension

this would eithe rbe the from struts and the plastic shields on them, or if it is a clunk, then the tie rod ends or steering knuckle may be shot.
