Hi, the way to get the compressor to come on is to short the connector to the pressure sensor on the return line. The sensor is along the same line you were trying to charge on. Just remove the connector and use a large paper clip to connect the terminals inside the connector. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

On my 2000 eldorado northstar that did NOT work (the paper clip jumper thing) Had to unplug the battery then turn key on and hold the brake down for 4 min (drains all the memory power etc.) then reset the dash obII code (press and hold down together the off button and the warmer button together) and then use the fan down arrow until you get to the acm and then hit it up once to clear the acm codes) have your freon ready start car and turn ac on it should kick the comp on to fill it up.
Thank you my wife and I thought this was CRAZY but it worked for us!! I have to admit I had to try the jumper thing first, and when that failed I did the unplug bat, key on brake down method and the crazy thing then took the freon oh yeah cleared the obll dash code too! Thank you saved hundreds!

To add freon you may need to jump the connection on the low pressure switch, i must advise you that you can cause expensive damage to the ac system, the compressor may be damaged if you add to mucch gas or not enough, the right way would be with gauges, testing is needed to find out why the ac is not working, it may be a fualty switch or may be low on gas but be careful.
