Question about 1993 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

I have a 1993 ford mustang with the six cylinder engine. I have an over-heating problem. Every once and a while (almost rarely) the engine overheats. When it does, the air out of the heater becomes cool. If I pull over, and let the engine cool down, it will usually run fine. I have replaced the radiator, the thermostat, both radiator hoses, but to no avail. the first time it did this was on a cold morning start (16 degrees). the next time was when I was returning from Florida. It was running fine, I pulled into a rest stop for a rest (30 mintues) and when I restarted the car and began to drive it over heated. I pulled off at an exit and let it cool down. Then it drove fine from Florida to Tennessee without overheating again. Today it did it again when started up. I cannot figure this one out????

This could be a couple of things - you might check to make sure the fan is spinning ok ( it could be going out or not spinning proper ) ,, also check that your water pump belt is at the correct tension, make sure your anti-freeze and water is at the proper ratio, and I know that you said that you replaced the thermostat - but there is a chance that the thermostat is not opening all the way and is restricting water flow. since you also brought up the ' heater blowing cold ' problem, I would say that there seems to be a water cirulation issue -- ( again to the pump or thermostat ).

My 65 mustang stalls whenever i stop then it starts right back up

Hello Larry,

Without the car running... You should be able to open
the throttle.. and literally DROP it back to idle...

Observe the action of the THROTTLE RETURN
DASH-POT
T should visibly SLOW the RETURN
of the throttle linkage like a door closer...

If you do not SEE the slowess... the dashpot
should be replaced (they are getting SCARCE).

SIX CYLINDER (EXAMPLE (only))

You will need to have the THROTTLE RETURN DASH-POT
on your (unspecified) carburetor
tested and adjusted... and the IDLE SPEED correctly set.

Idle Speed and a slow rate of RPM reduction is
critical to the proper function...

Some LESSOR "mechanics" will attempt to raise the
IDLE SPEED to compensate for a malfunctioning
DASHPOT... This will PROFOUNDLY exacerbate
the problem.

I have a 93 ford mustang 4 cylinder 2.3 liter engine and need the wiring diagram for the spark plug wires. this is confusing because it is a 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs and my brother didnt mark them...

The firing order and spark plug wiring layout is depicted in over-the-counter repair manuals like the Haynes for '87-93 Ford Mustangs. If you can't spend the ~$20 on one of those (available at Pep Boys, Autozone, eBay, Amazon, etc) you should be able to check one out from your local library.

1993 ford mustang 4 cyl 8 plugs run fine then all of sudden it starts missing loses power i pull to side of the road and engine is missing like dead cylinder turn off switch recrank motor and it runs fine...

The only real way to pinpoint this is a plug in diagnostic at a garage.
It could be a fueling issue - clogged fuel filter, an ECU program fault, injector fault,or any one of several sensors giving bad information.

Try disconnecting all sensor connectors to their wiring - to see if it is a slight corrosion problem at a sensor - this is a cheap fix if it is.

A diagnostic will show all readings from sensors - so one going out of limit is easy to spot.

Computer diff

Yes. one is configured for a six cylinder scheme and the other is configured for a eight cylinder scheme. you will not be able to use a six cylinder configured ECM on a eight cylinder engine. this will not work properly. ECM and EEC is the same thing just different terminology.

On my 1993 ford mustang Lx 4 cyl,if I drive car turn-off and after 25 minutes try to start car will crank ,but won't start and if I don't hold ignition key until it start it won't start unless I hold down...

It can be anything - throttle adjustment, burnt out spark plugs, clogged fuel filter(honestly not common and really just a reason to replace it xD), or a worn out fuel pump.
First check the throttle/idle setting if it's fine, then the wires leading to the throttle body and air sensors, also the wires leading to the fuel pump.
also check if there isn't too much oil in the air filter's box or anywhere the engine vent's hoses lead.

Have oil in my radiator fluid reservoir tank. Let a friend due a tune-up on car and i gave him a pcv valve to put on car he put it on the left valve cover in rear (if looking at car) in my book it shows...

someone has just reversed the valve covers swapped them from one to the other as far as the oil concern, sounds like you either have a leaking trans cooler in radiator or you have a blown head gasket
