Batterylight on after rev new battery and alternator


who put in the alternator and battery. when you rev up the motor the alternator is push more volts. are the wires all hooked up right. there is a starter relay . but i think a wire is touching or is not hooked up right

How can I check the starter. the battery last for one day, new battery every night I have to disconected or cable jump in the morning. all the lights are out.


This sounds more like a radio or an amp is draining the battery. When the starter goes bad it will just not turn or turn real slow. But there are wires on the starter that goes to the alternator. Check your battery, take it to a local parts store and have them read the CCA's. Watch the cables as you hook up the battery. hook up the red (positive) cable first, then watch the ground (black) cable as you make the connection. If you see a spark you have a amp draw. Start by taking the large wire off the alternator, it should be hot from the starter, take that wire loose and then retouch the black cable to the battery looking for the same spark. if it is gone, your alternator has a bad diode and you need a new or rebuilt one. If the spark is still there, start taking out fuses one at the time but put them back as you go, to see if you can find which circuit is causing the battery to go dead. Most cases, it will be the alternator or a stereo system has a bad diode.

There was a spark from the positive cable when I hooked it back up can not jump the truck not getting anything did I cross some wires somewhere?


Ford uses fuseable links, look around battery and starter selanoid, could have burnt one when it sparked, if you find one just pull on it if its burnt it will pull apart. Just food for thought, any time your hooking up battery cables, its best to hook the positive cable first and negative last, that way if there is a spark it will be on the neg. side where it can't run thru the system and cause harm, with all the sensors and the computers, that little spark will cause a lot of problems.

lets start with ;; the car wants to turn over;?i dont know what you mean ,is the starter motor turning ?is the engine turning/.lets rule out a couple of things 1 the alternator might be faulty as you say why did you need jump cables in the first place.lets start after the big spark;if ign was switched on at the time of the spark then anything is possible;i would say start looking in and around the battery for burnt or broken wires then move down to wards the starter also feel all plastic wires for signs of overheating replace if necessery.At the starter motor you should have three wires one earth this is black or has no covering the second wire is red with a plastic covering the third is the wire coming from your ign switch check all three wires for burning if you cant find the fault by now then you will have to get it tested by an autoelectrical garage hope this helps you.adrian

check the fuses in the fuse panel located in the engine compartment near the battery.... that vehicle may have fusible links as well

Negetive battery cable sparks when Itry to connect i put new altenator&starter selenoid


I had a similar issue and found that the connections at the starter shifted and created a short. An old friend of mine kept frying the starter solenoid wires and kept a spare set along. He beat the problem by replacing the main ground strap/cable from the battery to the chasis. Age caused too much ground resistance and caused the ignition wires to overheat and melt. Another friend was on his fourth alternater on a Landrover when I suggested he look at the battery ground.
