Can you send me the diagram in a form that I can see? The way it shows up in your reply is too small to be of any value. Thanks!

Thanks, received the drawing. Couple of follow up questions. 1. Where is the BCM located? 2. Where are the ground points shown actually located? Nick

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

Thanks for the help. I'll start my search tomorrow!

I tried putting a jumper on all three switch connectors. No joy. Next idea? (I haven't mentioned it before but the cabin lights also think a door is open and stay on. I have been using the switch to kill the lights.) Nick

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

OK. I have removed the jumpers. All three connectors are removed from the switches. Still have the problem.

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

Sorry to be such a pain! Disconnected wiper module plug. No joy.

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

Pulled all the plastic in the rear door area, hinge covers and checked the pink/black wire. All seems to be ok. Also started the car and turned off the cabin light kill switch. Cabin lights on and tried wiggling all the wires exposed to see if I could get the lights to react, not even a blink. Is it now time to suspect the BCM?

Not to second guess you but here is a comment from a GM forum

    What would you do?

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

Your approach has been great! OK where is the BCM? Also if I purchase a replacement does it have to be programmed by a dealer? (I am having another issue with battery drain that could also be a BCM issue. Recall issue #02066. Last 8 of my VIV 3G152993, part of the Silao units.) I really appreciate your help and will recommend this service to others!

  • Nick Patterson Jan 01, 2011

Thanks! I'll let you know how this works out. You have been great!

  • Nick Patterson Jan 04, 2011

Bernie. It was the pink / black wire near the BCM! Disconnected the lower plug on the BCM and it cleared the error. It then came back. So I replaced the pink / black wire from the door sill up to the BCM and it cleared the problem. Never would have known where to look with out your help. (FYI the dealer wanted $560 to replace the BCM and program it.) Thanks again for all your help! Nick

  • Nick Patterson Jan 04, 2011

Your tech helped me solve my problem. Great response times and very helpful attitude! He even sent drawings! I would have spent a lot more time and money with out your help!

  • Nick Patterson Jan 04, 2011

Yes the rear wiper works again! Don't feel bad about starting in the back, it made good sense. Thanks again!

Hello Nick.

I just went through the wiring diagram looking for the relation between the two problems you have.
If you can see it in the diagram below it will show you that the wiper motor and the access light both share a common ground circuit. .
And the other wire in common goes between the wiper module and the body control computer liftgate ajar switch sensor wire. This one will prevent the activation of the wiper motor when the hatch is open.

I believe you will need to go through the diagram and test the circuits and find out which of the wires is causing the issue.
Is the ground circuit open, or is one of the latch switches shorted?

A multi meter, some time and patience will repair this if you are comfortable in tracing electrical problems. If you are not too comfortable doing electrical repairs this one may end up with you getting very frustrated...or worse ;)

I hope this helps you towards a good repair.
Happy New Year and thank you for using FixYa.

    Hello Nick.
Have you an email to where I can send it?

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

Looking at this issue again the ground must be OK. If the light is on that indicates that the switches are able to provide a ground signal. So it must be a switch issue.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

You won't need to go as far as the BCM Nick.
The problem will be at the rear.
I don't know if you seen my last message yet.
But the ground is good...Otherwise the light would not come on.
It has to be a switch.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

Give me a note if you need a bit more help.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

A jumper? That will not help Nick... A switch in a diagram is shown in it's normal position. Notice that all three are showing open. You are looking for one or more that is staying closed. That is the one providing ground turning on the lights and disabling the wiper motor.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

OK. You will now have to trace where the ground source is coming from. It may be a pinched wire or even from the wiper motor. Possibly an internal issue in the wiper module.....You could try disconnecting the wiper motor plug to begin....

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

Time to start following the pink /black wire along and look for a spot where it could be worn through and touching ground. Look in areas where it is bent or turned consistently such as near hinges.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

Tough problem Nick....Have not seen this as yet in my shop.
I looked at IATN mechanics network and seen nothing on it there either.
It is a possibility though. Just that usually the problems with this type of issue are at the back. That is why I had you concentrate there. Do you want BCM location?

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

I sent you a location Diagram VIA e-mail....yes, you will need to have it programmed for your Suburban. Different accessories and options will require this.

  • FUBAR Jan 01, 2011

Thank you Nick...I would appreciate if you did let me know how it works out...Just in case I do see this problem in the future at my shop. It may help someone else. Thank you for your patience and sticking with the problem. ....

  • FUBAR Jan 04, 2011

WoooHoo. Great! So glad to hear of this Nick. I apologize if I had you spend so much time at the back but we had to start somewhere.
Not usual for the wire to short out up there....By the way, does your rear wiper work again?

My rear wiper on my 2003 chevy suburban 1500 stoped working and my battery is being drained

Hello the wiper motor axel is stucked by rust and the hole viper motor must be changed or renewed with a used/better one.

To prevent the battery from draining remove the multiplug connector from the rear viper engine.
(Remember to remove the negative cable from the battery)

When the viper motor is stucked the power circuit can`t close in position and this is why your battery is being drained for power.

Hope this will help you

The Rear Wipers on my 2001 1500 Chevy Suburban Stopped working

Unplug the connector at the rear wiper motor, turn the switch on and probe the wires with a test lamp, if you have power back there you more than likely have a bad motor. If there is no power start checking fuses they are all labeled easily on the back side of the fuseblock covers both on the dash and underhood. Good Luck!!!
