It probably is the alternator (they do go out) but also have him look at the drive belt that goes around the alternator pulley. If the belt is loose or damaged the alternator won't charge, you could also see the car's temperature increase due to the the belt being damaged because that belt also drive the water pump.

Alternators can be removed and tested at parts stores prior to purchasing a new one. Hope it works out!

How do I retain the "cedar chest smell" from an antique Cavalier cedar chest. I have sanded with a steel wool product, but no luck....Help me get the smell back I'm looking for. Please.

If you refurbish the outside in any way it will loose value and appeal. The smell you are looking for is chamfer wood. You can purchase strips of this wood on line. Lay them at the bottom of the chest and enjoy.

You need to check the alternator output. It sound as if the battery is discharging because there is not enough or no alternator output. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the battery when it is running. It should be 13.5V-14.75V ideally but, at least 1.5V higher than a fully charged battery's standing voltage to charge. The battery light usually illuminates when the running voltage is low. I do not know what your 'stop' light is.

check the voltage on the battery with a volt meter, it should be around 12.6 to 13 volts, if not charge battery with a charger, after charge try to start vehicle, if the vehicle starts use your volt meter at the battery again, the voltage should be around 14 to 14.5 any lower and the battery isn't being charged and the alternator should be checked and or replaced to solve the problem..

Sounds like a charging problem. When your battery runs low there is not enough current to operate the sensors properly. When you charged the battery it thought the system was fine till it gets low again. I would have your alternator checked and battery. Good luck and have a great day.

2004 Ford Taurus, problem started last night. Drove to store, came home & parked. Tried to restart to park closer to curb and would not start. Engine did not turn over. Got low oil pressure message,...

Well your vehicle is indicating a problem, did you or your husband check the oil quantity? If it is low replenish the quantity. Also your battery seems to be failing, when you park it for a long time it will gain a little bit of power, thus when you come outside in the morning it would be better off then if you turned off the car and ran into the gas station to refuel and tried to take off. This shouldn't be a problem if your alternator is working properly and charging the vehicle while you drive. You may want to have your husband remove it and bench test it at a Checkers/Autozone or a local auto parts facility.

Your problem is either the Alternator isent charging its 13.5 volts and the battery is flat or wont hold the charge SO do this.
Jump start engine again let it run for 2 minutes then turn on lights,, the head lights should go bright at 13.5 volts. it engine cuts out..and the lights dont go bright,, then the Alternator is not charging,,,, If they go bright and still cuts out the batterys NO GOOD.
Replace battery or get it checked outit must hold 12volts all the time Let me know how you get on.

Charging system erratic

You need to Check the Belts for Tightness and replace the Battery Cables. When you Replace the Cables, you will need to Grind the Area where the Cables attach to Make sure that they are Contacting the Area Completely. A wire Brush will work very well for this. If the Belts are worn, they will Stretch out and will not allow the Alternator to charge the Battery. If you need more Help Just let me Know! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
